One AHL Division Played Only 68 Games
I just happened to notice this. This is how the standings ended for the AHL. They then went on to the playoffs.

I did not know that (obviously) And wow, that's just crazy that all of those teams are at such a disadvantage, it's worse than the Designated Hitter in baseball!

They're not, the playoffs are decided by winning percentage, not points. It's that way because the AHL incorporated what used to be the ECHL's California teams and allowed the shorter schedule for them to help keep travel costs at a reasonable level. They actually used to mix schedule lengths within the division when the Texas teams were in it, but now they all play 68.
