Ridiculous free agency contract demands

Hey All. It is the 2031 off season in my game. As with any off season, it is a time where teams shell out ridiculous amounts of money to obtain a player that may very well play below their contract value. Recent players like this include Lucic in 2016, Neal in 2018, Clarkson in 2013, and Jack Johnson in 2018. I have found that this is also the case in FHM6; players demanding large amounts of money, worth WELL more than their production would suggest.

Here's an example: 32 year old Nolan Patrick decided to hit free agency after 14 years with the Flyers. Patrick is coming off his second worst season in his career, getting only 10 goals and 14 assists in 73 games. Logic would suggest that a team would grab him as a possible bottom 6 forward for around $3m. However, he is seeking a slight pay increase in free agency, at $6.34m per year for 3 years. For context, players with similar cap hits in the NHL today include Nathan MacKinnon, Alex Radulov, Sean Monahan, and Brad Marchand.

Heres another example. Henri Gauthier has decided to not sign an extention with the New York Islanders. He is an injury prone defenseman who has played less than 200 games, and only has 20 points in his career. I think I understand why the Isles decided not to resign him. He is demanding a 3 by 3 contract, 3 million per year over 3 years.

One more example. Koehn Ziemmer only played 67 games with Montreal this year, but he got 62 points in the games he played. He also exploded in the playoffs with 26 points in 22 games. A player like this should be getting a lot of money per season, i would say somewhere around 7 million per year is a good point for his contract. However, his contract demands are an insane 10.9 million for 5 years. That salary would give him the 8th largest AAV of all the players in the NHL today. My reaction to this is a hearty

These contract requests are absolutely insane in my opinion. I find myself having to increase the salary cap every season just so teams can sign free agents. Players in the future are going to make more money, thats an inevitability. But if this is the inflation of contracts in the future, I fear what is to come.

I want to know, what are some of the large free agency signings you have seen in FHM6? I am genuinely interested in the experiences of other players around this topic.

From what I have seen I think they base contract demands too much on ability stars. You can then set it to use stats to affect ability stars, which I assume would make contract asks a bit more reasonable, but it throws off figuring out which players are actually good vs players who have just been misused by their teams. I do wish the game had a bit more logic into the contract asks. In one game that's in 2025 I had Bunnaman asking for 5.5 million to re-sign, the most points he had in a season in the last 3 years was 24. His ratings weren't very impressive, and his previous contract was for 2 million.
