Wrong Lineup
At the suggestion from another poster, I have been practicing before embarking on a full replay where I might screw things up. As expected, there have been mistakes but I just about have things under control before I try the "real" replay. The practice environment has been 1962 but I ran into a problem that I don't understand what went wrong, unlike other problems that I either figured out or found an answer by reading the boards. I am the Commissioner of the league with the goal of playing all games against the AI. I selected the option to use the actual lineups and rosters for the replay. When I came to the the April 23 Braves / Dodgers game and looked at the pregame screen, there was a blank spot in the Braves lineup for the 8th hole at catcher. I went to the Retrosheet site to see who the starting catcher should be and saw it was Bob Uecker. Returning to the pregame screen, I saw that Uke was not on the active roster. While looking at the boxscore for the real game, I saw that Lew Burdette was the starting pitcher but OOTP used Warren Spahn, who Retrosheet shows was the 4/24 starter. I also noticed that the two relief pitchers used by the Braves, Willey and Butler, were not on the active roster. I can see that part of the problem is that OOTP has the roster size set at 25 when, in 1962, the roster size for the first 30 days of the season should be 28. I suspect that somewhere I didn't set some flag correctly but I can't figure out why selecting using the actual lineups doesn't work like it should. What did I miss and how do I make sure that the actual lineups and rosters are used every single day?

I suspect you may have already identified the problem. If rosters were at 28 players for the first month of the season and OOTP is at 25, then that will be a problem for historical lineups. Uecker was the team's third catcher, so he wouldn't crack OOTP's 25-man roster. The roster limit may have also shifted the starting rotation. Check your April 11 game and see if Carl Willey started. If not, then that would have pushed everyone else up a day.
I'm not sure what you can do about that. Evidently, OOTP can't track the historical roster rules, but maybe you can. I've never tried this, but you can set the roster limits to 28 initially and then manually change them to 25 a month into the season. I'm not even sure if that's possible, but it might be the only solution to this problem.

Wondering, did you ever actually start the game? Sometimes the pregame screen can be misleading when using real lineups. I've noticed this mainly with starting pitchers. The pregame screen might show who OOTP would start, based on rest or rotation etc., but when the game starts the actual real life starter will start the game. Makes me wonder if Uke might have been the catcher once the game began as well.
As for the relief pitchers, OOTP only provides the real starting lineups and starting pitchers. The game does not provide real rosters. So, relief pitchers, backups etc. will not be set according to real life. Your games should start with the real lineups and real starting pitchers, but from that point on the rest is left to the OOTP AI. |

I just simmed the 1962 season using the default settings. Uecker started for MIL on 4/23. So did Burdette. Spahn started on 4/24.

Shouldn't it make the roster moves if the setting is to actual transactions? Aren't roster moves considered transactions? Yes, I played the game but had no way to get the players that should have been in the game into the game because they are not on the pregame screen. I haven't played the 4/24 game yet but I saw that Ron Piche is going to be the starter and Uecker is now active.

Promotions from and demotions to the minor leagues are not included in the transactions file. It'd be a gargantuan project, even if we had access to the historical data (most of which we do not).

I looked at the active roster size and it says 25. Do I need to manually set this at 28 for the first 30 days so the game will select the proper players? I guess I'm having a hard time understanding why setting the game to use actual lineups and transactions doesn't take care of the problem.

Did you take control of roster moves from the AI? If you did, that could be the problem.
