Game crashing on alt-tab to other apps

I am running a historical league and typically I have excel open to take notes on stuff after games or days or whatever and then alt-tab back to OOTP and so forth since i run in full screen. In the past that's always been fine, lately it results in the OOTP screen shaking rapidly and being unable to click anything on it to shut it down. A forced shut down via task manager is the only resolve and of course that loses my data up to last save which I usually only rely on the auto-save every month.

I play everyday for the past year or so and I've only started noticing this issue within the last week. Not sure if there's a fix for this but here are some of my particulars. Should I run in non-full screen so that I don't have to alt-tab?

Latest build via steam
W10
8 GB ram
can answer more specs if needed

Having the same issue, as i'm updating pictures - jumping from mlb site back to the editor in OOTP, the screen goes black. I can't even X out, need to kill the program with the task manager. Using latest build 34, never had this happen with ootp21
