Is defense too OP or I just cracked the game of baseball?

Long story short - I've just won my 5th WS in a row(2022-2026) with a team that doesnt look all that great(Blue Jays), but its build the specific way, which is purely for defense. We got like ~+50 UZR posted just by our infielders(25+ every year by Andrelton Simmons) and like around +20 by outflielders(most by CFs). Our pitching is also mediocre or maybe highly undervalued by the game, I should say. Basicly groundballers rated 50-55 overall, who post like 150 ERA+ easily every year. Also my flyballers benefit highly, unless they give up too many long balls. Offensively its basically just Vlady and bunch of scrubs.

Does anybody experienced similar things in OOTP?

I’m a Giants fan. I can attest to the “a guy and a bunch of scrubs” lineup who fields well, with a good staff being quite effective. At least it was in the early 2010’s LOL

The Dodgers from the early 60s say hi.

If Don Drysdale had another 100 PA in 1965, he would have had a good chance of leading the team in home runs. I wonder if Walt Alston would have ever put his SP in the three spot.

Garlon says the best fielders are over rated.

Didn't the Mariners try this in like 2012 or something with Chone Figgins etc and get absolutely destroyed?

I would rather say quite the opposite. I dont play historical much, but from what Ive seen here and there top fielders ratings are overvalued if anything. Eventho Im not baseball expert by any means, I dont think that puting up around 8 WAR with glove alone is all that realistic.

That's what his study concludes.

Oh, I see. So its probably also true for standard game. Thats a bummer though, cuz for a split second I thought Ive just found baseballs lapis philosophorum and gonna end up being the greatest GM of all time.

I think that defense is the most consistent aspect of baseball compared to hitting and pitching. Pitchers will sometimes have a terrible year/ decline during one or two seasons.... same with hitters. Defense on the other hand is more predictable. Great fielder having a terrible year at the plate?? At least his defense is still there.

Ground ball finesse pitchers + outstanding defense = profit. And it’s relatively cheap. I find over the course of 162 games, hitting will find a way.
