Historical Leagues - retired players coming back?
I'm playing a historical sim starting in 1969 with a draft before each season. I'm noticing that players who retire in my game before they retired in real life try to retire but are re-imported into the game.
Take poor Tom Seaver. In real MLB he played until 1986 when he was 41. In my sim he has retired at the end of each season since 1981 but he gets reappearing. I don't remember OOTP handling player retirements this way in the past. I made sure the "retire players according to history" checkbox on the Historical tab in league settings is unchecked. |

This has happened before with previous versions of the game. I initially attributed it to the fact that my save had been imported through multiple versions of OOTP when the player database was in a different format, but others have reported issues even with new saves started in the current version of the game.
Unfortunately I don't have an answer for you - if I recall, the developers kept thinking they'd found the problem, but it still happened - at least for me. Same way as you described it - a player would retire in my save before he did in real life, then when I advanced to the offseason, those retired players would pop up in the DFA area of the teams they played for in real life. For me, it happened even though I had real rookies going into the draft instead of their real teams. The workaround I found was that I unchecked the "Import historical rookies" box in the League Settings anytime I advanced from postseason to offseason. That prevented the retired players from popping back up. Then I re-checked it directly afterwards - otherwise I might end up with no real rookies to draft when the draft pool got generated! I've been doing that workaround for several versions - I'd love it if the developers could figure out why this happens and fix it! Here's my original post when it happened to me (I guess for the first time) in OOTP 17: https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...d.php?t=275237 And here's a follow-up post from last year that links to another post that discussed this issue: https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...d.php?t=313850 Last edited by hefalumps; 05-03-2021 at 11:04 AM. |

I have had that happened numerous times. I get an email saying so and so player is the oldest and I look and he retired ,and he shows up on his historical team. I thinking that he retire earlier than his real life career and he comes back because the game thinks he is on his team

I just posted in one of the threads I linked - it looks like this has been addressed in OOTP23. I just tested with my league and didn't have anyone retired pop back up on a team they played for that year in real life, but I did have six players who went undrafted in the past few game seasons and were deleted pop back up again.
