My best advice is to create the league you want rather than the one others want--it will be personal for you and you're more likely to bring it to life, love it, nurse it, raise it, nurture it. Right now, you have a blank slate, which does not really allow much feedback.

What are you thinking for your league?

^^ this

We'd be happy to help with some ideas, but you'd have to be more specific on asking opinions. Right now, your post is extremely open ended. Frame something out and we can help refine it.

Something that helped me in the past was looking through the mods section for uniforms and logos and finding ones I really liked.

It could be the style, colours, or team name that felt right for my league.
Was easier for me than coming up with a team for example Denver Bears and then finding something that would work for that team.
I liked putting the league together and unless you are going to do your own logos and uniforms easier to set the teams up.

If you do this and find other teams you like but don't have the room in your league at the start keep them for possible expansion teams later on.

This is great advice. I started a 60 team league a couple weeks ago and still haven’t held the inaugural draft. All that time has been spent finding or creating logos, making uniforms, and downloading ballparks. Since it’s very hard to find generic ballparks, I have to go and customize each ballpark because they are usually set up with some other team’s logos. So it’s a LOT of work to set up a custom league when your first step is to decide on team names. I don’t think I would do it this way again. Try to find as much already created stuff as you can to minimize the burnout element.

You got a lot of good advice in the above posts.

Nice Custom Logos, Jerseys and Caps are a huge part of getting immersed in a league... initially this will be a lot of work in setting up a league, but it is worth the time... 50% of my enjoyment of the game comes from well-done graphics... 50% from playing out the games.

Go to the OOTP Mods and Graphics Forum... use these Stickys for Teams, Logos and Jerseys:
Retro Style Logos (txranger, knuckler)
My Fictional Teams (low)
High School Feeder League Logos (Lawn Loaf)

Check out the other fine Stickys for Logos, Jerseys and Caps.

You might also check out other non-Stickyed threads, too... there are a lot of other fine logos, jerseys and caps there, too.

Personally, I have found that playing out games in small leagues in the one-pitch mode greatly enhances my enjoyment... this is only possible for small leagues 12-16 teams... my current league is two leagues, 6-teams each, that play only 10 games a season... one home and one away game with each team... one game a week on Sunday afternoon... you could expand the league schedule to 20 games if you liked... or even 30... I chose 10 games to speed up each season.

The ideal league for me is 2 leagues or 2 subleagues with no more than 8-10 teams in each league or subleague... a small league is easier to administer and makes it easier to know the players well... it also make it easier to recap as a dynasty league, should you be interested in that.

Post a dynasty league report on the OOTP Dynasty Forum... this will help increase your knowledge of your league, its teams and its players.

If you don't plan to play out your games and will just sim, then you don't want a small league.

Keep your league fictional (I prefer fictional teams because you don't have any expectations of player performance... using real players will disappoint you at times, when Joe DiMaggio is only a .250 hitter and Tom Seaver is a 7-22 pitcher with a 5.00 ERA.
