Exclamation ULB Moving to 22 and entering the 2038 season. (4 Openings)

ULB is a fictional additional league forming from a split from the MLB after the 1994 player's strike. Real players were in the game, however we have largely seen all real players retire or reach the ends of their careers at this point. The league is effectively a competitor league to the MLB, meaning you challenge them for FAs, waivers and international prospects, but compete with other ULB teams in the Federal or Player's League, in order to get to the playoffs and win the Union Cup.

The league has a dedicated core of veteran GMs and sims every Tues/Thurs/Sat/Sun for a week in game/about 3 days during the offseason's busiest periods. League uses slack for communication and has a statsplus website https://statsplus.net/ulb/. Any questions don't hesitate to DM or post below.

The Open Teams:

St Paul Saints, PL, 107-55

The team with the best record in the league is up for grabs, they just won their first UC in about 40 years a season ago and made it to the League Cup (final 4) just this year. The GM has moved on to another team in the League and the core is ripe for a new GM to come in and start winning straight away. That there is no challenge here should not be assumed, the team has a weaker farm system, and with a few veterans beginning to hit their decline years there are a few spots they could be in trouble with. The rotation boasts the league's best collection of LHPs and Salvador Gonzalez, just 25 is one of the best players in the league, being already an MVP winner with a 10+ WAR season. The team's financials will need to be managed carefully, and the aging veterans delicately replaced, but this is a team a new GM could have years of success with in one of the most challenging divisions in the league.

Boston Colonials, PL, 89-73

More of a challenge than the Saints, but certainly not a rebuild, having just won their division and coming off a few years of success from their rebuild. The team is capable and the core is still in their prime, they need supplements and an improved bullpen. The team could be blown up for a GM who wants to make their mark on a storied organisation with a few core players on the wrong side of 30, but the centrepieces are all there for a capable and talented squad that continue taking advantage of a largely perpetually weak division. Finances are favourable and FA help could be found, while T-Bone Kuichi is one of the finest Cs in the league to build around, and the seemingly ageless Braden Halladay continues to carve up the ULB. GMs will get a fun and intriguing organisation to potentially make an early splash in their ULB career.

New Mexico Suns, FL, 62-100

A much more challenging organisation, the Suns have been in something of a purgatory since their last competitive year came and went in 2029. They have spent time as a 500 team, a fringe WC competitor, and a losing team, but never fully committed to the rebuild. The team is not beyond a competitive year, despite its poor record this season. They boast one of the best bats in the game in Julias Elias who is just 26. They also have a few intriguing bullpen pieces and certainly have the potential to break out in a big way with a decent few talented youngsters in the pipeline and potentially very strong first round pick. They need pitching and a longer lineup than just Elias, but this team can be rebuilt in a new GM's image, and would represent an intriguing challenge for any prospective newcomer.

New Orleans Pelicans, FL, 53-109

Inarguably one of the worst teams last season, the Pelicans have the misfortune of being a rebuilding team in one of the stronger division of the ULB. With their most recent attempt at finding a talented core to bring back the good times of the early 2030s has seemingly fallen apart, there is plenty here for a new GM to be excited about. For one thing the team is open for anyone to make their mark, and the financials of the club leave it wide open to a GM looking to spend their way out of trouble, without the weight of expectations threatening their moves. The team does not have a lot to build around, but Graham Bellows remains an extremely talented bat in his mid 30s and Cesar Camacho and Doug Minthorn make exciting young prospects to pair with a mostly likely top 5 pick this year. This team is one for those who like challenges, and could be an opportunity for a GM to really make a team which is theirs, in a division where competition has been fierce for much of the last 15 seasons.

Charlotte Eagles, PL, 73-89

The Eagles are in an interesting place for a new GM, they have been rebuilding for a long time now, and finally have a fairly strong farm system in place to build from long term, in many ways this organisation is a bit of a tweener, but SP/C Tikki Romero and 2B Esteban Dominguez are ready to compete now, while young prospects continue to climb up and give new reinforcements. The team has a financial base to build from, and the division is more competitive since Havana fell off to their first below 500 season in some years. A new GM will get the chance to prove their early wheeling and dealing chops, while not necessarily simply inheriting a very talented core to simply plug and play. Washington may be in the divisions driving seat, but Charlotte are the kind of team a new GM can make their name known from in the ULB.

Please contact me via DM or posting below if interested and I will work to pass you on to our Commissioner, we are a very friendly league and a lot of fun to hang out with. Can be a great starter league even with the future setting and the more out there setup, I should know, this was my first online league!

Great writeup Dor! There is something to be excited about for every single team on that list.

This was the first online league I ever joined and it's been a great place to grow my OOTP skills, get in plenty of good banter on the league slack channel, and experience some wonderfully wacky storylines courtesy of our excellent commissioner. The league feels more balanced to me now than it has in any point in recent memory, so this is a great time to jump into the fray and build a championship contender.

St Paul has been opened again, the write up is largely the same as before, though we are now part way through the offseason at this point.
