Handful of small issues...

I recently imported my custom league save from FHM 6 to 8 via 7, and there's been three small issues I've been having with the new game thus far:

-Does FHM 8 read custom jersey files differently? I've been having a problem where players for certain teams' away portraits & hockey cards show them in their home jersey, but with their away helmets. (I think I isolated this? If a team's jersey is named, say, "windsor_crabs_away_1919," FHM 8 doesn't seem to notice it if the current in-game year is 1922 the way FHM 6 would.)

-When I set a playoff series to be a best-of-three, it instead plays a two-game total-goals series. (To be fair, 6 had this issue as well, for whatever that's worth now.)

-The game doesn't hand out individual awards at season's end. It'll name nominees at the end of the regular season, but when the playoffs finish, nothing comes of it.

The jersey years should still work the same, I'll have a look at what's going on with the helmets.

Which playoff system are you using? I get a normal best-of-3 series when choosing that option with custom playoffs.

Re: the awards, can you upload the save (instructions here)? I'm wondering if there might be an issue with the twice-imported game and changes we've made along the way to the awards ceremony.

I'm having the same problem with jerseys. When some teams are on the road, it will show their home jersey instead of their road one.

I'll elaborate on this further, highlighting one specific team, the New York Americans, as an example. (I apologize for the incoming image dump. )

So this is how I was saving jersey files in FHM 6: the team name, then the away designation, then the year of introduction; at that time everything functioned as it should.


But when I imported the save to FHM 8, keeping that file name format:


As you can see on the left, the Americans' players are now in their white home jerseys despite being on the road, but wearing their away blue helmets.

If I tweak the file name, however:


Tacking on that jersey's final year before being replaced - in this case, 1995 - and then reload the game


Their away jerseys show up as they should. (One could just go without a year at all, and for teams that don't change jerseys at all that would be fine, but for franchises that change multiple times in their existence, and would thus need a designated year for even their most recent jerseys, that would pose a problem; but I found that tacking on an end year of "9999", presumably as late as one could possibly go, solves it easily enough.)

On that note, after my post I actually discovered something else not working right here: Instead of the top 2 teams per conference qualifying, it instead just takes the top 4 teams in the league:


For my first season in 8, 3 teams in the East qualified while just 1 in the West did; and while 2 teams per conference qualified in season 2...


...Both first rounds are interconference now, because of their seeding in the league overall. (Also as I said, and as you can see, I selected best-of-three series for both rounds but I got two-game total-goals series, which isn't even a visible option normally, instead.)

Well, I was going to, but when I tried it said the upload was going to take upwards of 3 hours, and even leaving it to do some shopping in the meantime didn't even get me halfway there; so given that I only got 4 seasons into this file, I think to fix this awards bug I'm just gonna start over, again, in 8 this time.

As far as the jersey thing goes, it started going wrong for me one season when jerseys that previously worked fine just stopped working

Ah, I think I know what might be going on there, the implementation of the year system in the cards may not be quite right.

That's why - it's the actual WCHL historical format, which is hardcoded to replace the best-of format with a 2-game, total goals series.

That's odd, since you've got the correct two-conference format that the playoff system expects. I'll have to do some testing to see exactly what's going wrong there.

Back again, because I don't think importing is the issue here: as I said I would, I started this custom league over, fresh, in FHM 8 and ran into the same problem: while it names nominees for the awards...


There's still no actual ceremony or event where they're awarded.


I have taken the liberty of uploading my save to the FTP server; it is titled "PHL v4.lg".

Interesting, if you advance it to the second season, the awards start working then. I think the problem may be related to the short schedule putting the nominations in a different calendar year than the awards ceremony, but I'm not sure why that'd fix itself after one season. We'll have to investigate further.
