Ties

What are the views on ties? I am assuming no extra innings in the regular season? I am surprised that I like this option.

In hockey I don't mind the 5-minute OT, but I hate mandatory shootouts, Maybe limit a game to 10 innings?

I personally prefer ties after the 10th to the modified extra innings rule. The modified extra inning rule should be launched into the sun.
I am glad this is an option.

I don't like ties either, but greatly prefer them over the free runner at 2B. I would prefer them decide the game via coin flip than that.

Infinite baseball >>> Ties >> coin flip >>>>>>>>>> free runner at 2B.

I prefer the game be played as it was meant to be played no time limits extra innings and lots of Double Headers and American League DH and Nationals Pitchers hit. To me in my opinion ties are a whimp clause for lazy players

Ties shouldn't exist in professional sports. My take. The end.

For me personally the only use for ties would be spring training,as no need to play extra in meaningless games.Using in regular season seems insane!!Just my two cents

Not sure which is worse: Ties or the gimmicks of extra innings/overtimes to bring a game to a swift conclusion.

Ties don't belong in sports. But neither do runners on second to start an extra inning, artificial/alternating 2-point plays in college football or the "everyone must touch the ball" rules in pro football. The "everything must be fair" crowd must live sheltered lives.

Other, non US leagues use ties. Let’s not overanalyze this. Also, the fact of spring training is very much helped by not destroying your bullpen in a literally meaningless game that happened to go 19 innings because dammit a tie is like kissing your sister and good old Lulubelle is cute but not that kind of cute.

At first I disliked the modified extra inning rule but after playing out all my games I learned to like it, games were exciting in extra innings and it saved my bullpen a lot.

I’m stubbornly leaving on the old rules but admittedly it’s very annoying to play games that are like 8-8 at the end of regulation and then still 8-8 7 innings later as both teams completely ruin their bullpens for the next week. Fortunately my league is still in 1970 so I don’t feel as bad just leaving guys in until they finally get too exhausted to do anything but give up walks and homers.

at least we know you will never break the 33 inning game record or even remotely close. For me that man on 2nd rule will not be used in my solo. we each have our preferences.

ST is where I will use it. Rest of the season back to reality MLB style. Just not sure about the runner at 2b. To be clear I don't like it but may give it a one season test and see if that changes my mind.

For a historical game runner at 2b is a hard no.

Anyone seen a study on how many PA's and IP were "lost" (along with stats) with the runner at 2b rule? I would assume a drop in the bucket but still would be curious to see. Maybe there is a sort or column at BBR? Will have to look when I have time.

I like having the option for ties but prefer the play til it's over.
Maybe an option to play three extra innings and if no one wins then it ends in a tie.
I wonder if there is a way to make the option open to costumization.
I despise the free runner on 2nd rule.

I was hoping that the Tie can be done like they seem to do in the KBO and the *** which is if the game is tied after 3 extra innings(if all 3 are needed) that the game is then a tie.

There are two reasons to add ties to the game:

1. Some professional leagues (in particular KBO and ***) have ties; and

2. Ties were a regular feature in the days before the majority of ballparks had lights (pre-1940 or thereabouts).

Ties can still occur in MLB, but they're so rare (I think the last one was in 2016) that the average baseball fan would be excused for thinking that ties can't happen any more.

No regular season game should go into some absurd inning especially with the expanded playoff system essentially destroying division races. Having said that I'd prefer man on second over a tie

I greatly prefer ties after 12 innings over this stupid runner on 2nd rule. Worst rule ever. I hate it.

And the reason why I like ties after 12 innings is I think that the longer you go the longer a crapshoot it is as to who will win. I figure a scrappy smallball team with a good bullpen has maybe the best chance at winning in extras, but even for them the longer you go the more you've subbed out your best players and the more tired your others are so the less likely they'll come through. Not to mention that you may be sacrificing your next day's performance for the chance at winning a game that you probably have at best only a 50% chance of winning regardless of your normal winning %. And, you might even be increasing the chance at injuring your players! You'd be better off drafting teams from the fans left in attendance.

No, while seeing how long games could go might have been kind of neat, I'm just not down with 13+ inning games anymore. Bring on the tie and let's move on to tomorrow.
