Please fix the goalies

I've noticed every iteration of this game, you can have the absolute best goalies in the game and the backup always plays better. Coaching, defensive depth has had very little help. I have Vasy on my team and he proceeds to get a 3.00 or close GAA, it never fails.

This is my first FHM game but after 140+ hours I can honestly say this has not been my experience.

I have been playing with the Kraken and have restarted a few times, but every season except 1 Grubauer has posted better stats than Driedger. In fact, in my current game, in the second season Grubauer won the Vezina. Maybe my experience would be different with other teams.

Interesting how different people have such different experiences. Mine are more along the lines of the OP, in that I have a 3 star goalie who routinely plays just as well as a 5 star 'keeper. Which, when you think about it, kind of defeats the purpose of moving heaven and earth to acquire the 5 star guy.

Yes, I have played with strictly one team, and have yet to have a 5-star goalie, so my experience is pretty limited. I have a guy I'm developing in the minors that projects to be a 5-star guy so I will see how it is once he's in the lineup.

I got Vasy as well once and since he didn't actually perform better than Demko on my team, I just keep Demko whenever I restart. Also, no matter what I do, how I play, or what I position my players as, I lead the league in giveaways and takeaways every season, even if I base my game plan to take advantage of the tactics of the other teams. I do win the games, but dang.

So, for a lot of the season Dipietro was beating Demko in net, but that tailed off and by the playoffs Demko had taken the net back. However, Demko won the Vezina two years in a row, and a Conn Smythe yet his star rating never went up, so this season he played like a 3 star goalie.

I played the 1974-75 season in the good years of the Philadelphia Broadstreet Bullies, the year Dave Schultz got 472 penalty minutes and in my reconstruction of the season Schultz got on average 150 penalty minutes per season.

yeah I've had the same thing with the takeaway/giveaways. Does anyone know why? Do human games, even when simmed, somehow sim differently? And yeah, with two decent goalies anyways, I've almost always found the average guy to perform better than the great guy.

I have been curious about this takeaways/giveaways thing too (I assume this refers to the human controlled team always having way more of both than any of the AI-controlled teams) and having returned to the game after a several months absence, I was hoping that maybe a patch since I last played had fixed this. (And I do sim all of the games for my team- don't play any of them out at all.)

But a month into the new season for my fictional Colorado Avalanche team and we once again are first in both categories, with significantly more than our nearest competitors in these stats.
Has to be a bug, right? (I have seen it in every season for my team, regardless of a significantly different roster on the ice over time.)
I've decided to just ignore it for now and not let it affect my enjoyment. Still, seems like a problem that it would be nice to see fixed.

Every sim I run, even with coaches creating tactics, Shesterkin is putrid, and Georgiev is better. I don't get it. Georgiev also is a top-5 jersey seller on the team consistently lol.

Yeah, I get that all the time too. You can have a guy lead the league in scoring, but he can't crack the top 5 team jersey sales, or the top 20 for the league. This needs to be fixed.

In one of my historic games one of the AI controlled teams in the WHA started the season with their 3rd string goalie (half star rating), a 30 year old Austrian guy, as backup.
However he appeared to start most games, and after 22 games he had 19 wins, save% above .950, GAA of 1.04, and 7 shutouts, and led the league in every category.
Despite this he was then assigned to the minors (and managed to clear waivers!), and the 2nd ranked guy was recalled. He spent the rest of the season in the minors, and only had a brief handful of games as backup in the WHA a couple of seasons later.
