National team management crashing in historical (custom) mode

When trying to select a team for the Olympics in a historical random debut game (with a couple of custom expansions) my game crashes to desktop instead of giving me a list of potential players. Trying to play the game results in "not enough players dressed". I'm not super wedded to the national team management in this save and can probably commissioner mode it out but is there a way around this?

Any team and Olympics in particular? It works OK when I try it with Canada in 1980, but I suspect the problem may be with the randomization resulting in there not being enough players for some teams in a specific year.

Finland, 1952. Weird thing is that I checked with the search function that there are enough players (I wanted to scout before actually doing the callup)

Yes, please do, that should let me confirm if it's the player shortage.

Got the save, but it's not crashing for me. If I open the Team Finland roster screen I can go to the Possible Players tab and manually add players via right-click, or use the AI Assign Players option to select them, neither of which results in a crash, and I can play the first game with no problem. How exactly are you navigating to the Possible Players list? Maybe I'm doing something differently.

Clicking ROSTER from the dropdown brings up the team Quebec Bulldogs, not Finland. Then possible players are behind a veil, and trying to click on the tab crashes (which I guess makes sense since 0 players are available for Quebec Bulldogs)

(and yes your way works but it wasn't super intuitive that you had to search for Team Finland in the dropdowns first)

(also if i might allow to hijack for an unrelated bug, if a player can play both forward and defenseman the role choice defaults to one of the two, see Esko Tie)

Ah, that's the problem, if a national team isn't selected in advance on the World dropdown (or via clicking the link beside your GM name), the roster screen seems to be assuming the national team ID is actually a club team ID (Quebec is club team ID#4, Finland is national team ID#4), we'll have to change that.

Yeah, that's a limitation of the UI design; normally you can get around it by changing his primary position to the one that has the role you want, but that's not possible when controlling a national team, since you don't have the ability to change position on a player you only control temporarily. We'll have to find a better way around that.
