Bizarro League Baseball

Created a random debut using 2021. Fast simmed to September and I'm now watching the pennant races unfold. Only the first season and things are already insane.

Toronto barring disaster is set to win the AL East. To start September, they are the only team in that division above .500. Thing is Toronto as a team is hitting a blazing .199. I wonder what the lowest team average ever is for a team that made the post season.

Detroit sits atop the AL Central. With roughly 29 games left to play they have 800+ runs scored. Their pitching is pretty suspect though, so they haven't exactly run away with things.

Cleveland has 270 home runs. A hot September and they might top the 2019 Twins.

Pittsburgh's Mike Jacob sits at 48 home runs with a shot to reach 61.

I'm having to force myself to stomach the pitching during this period, as it's hard to see starters yanked so often and so early when they seem to have things under control. Then again, big innings flourish, so I'm not sure if any lead is ever safe.

It's also really strange to see so many guys hitting under .200. When I get home from work I need to see what the overall league batting average is.

I’m surprised you picked 2021. You will certainly see HRs and KOs.
How many teams? DH or no DH? 1 year or 3 year recalc..

My current Random is 1979 with 1 year recalc.. I haven’t used 1 year recalc in years but so far I am liking it.

I'm using the actual 2021 mlb setup. 3 year recalc. 100 TCR. Things are pretty much out of the box settings wise, except I turned off two way players. As for using 2021, it was just change things up. I wanted to see what would happen HR wise without the glass ceiling one tends to get using the years I'm so accustomed to using. I want 61 to be possible. That being said, it might not take me long to tire of it, if 61 becomes the norm.

This may be just too bizzaro to actually play out and watch. A young 19 year old Mickey Mantle blasting along with 253 strikeouts on September 3rd!!!! That's 30 more than the all time record with a month left to play. Mickey was still drawing walks at a healthy clip, so his on base percentage was in the neighborhood of .370, but the strikeouts are wild. I think what I will do is just keep the league alive and fast sim a season when I get the urge, just to see what kind of career numbers players put together.

So Mantle finishes the year with 292 strikeouts. 538 plate appearances, 91 walks, 128 hits. 41 home runs. 78 of his 128 hits went for extra bases.

Jose Hernandez whiffed 266 times. Dave Kingman 251 times

I simmed 2 more seasons and Mantle continued to whiff and a legendary rate. 800+ over 3 seasons.
