Defense Pairings

Do they primarily play with the forwards they are lined up next to on the Lineup screen, or rotate independently based on the ice time settings?

Or in other words, if I'm using my 3rd line as a defensive matchup line, should I keep my sheltered PP specialist D off the 3rd pair?

this is a good question by Byrath, because, even though you can provide defensive 5-on-5 usage % between the 3 pairs, seperately from usage among forward lines, when you go to the tactics screen, the defensive pairs are aligned with the same forward line for every way (even strength, PP, PK). you would think that the defensive pair tactics should be seperated out
