I'm currently playing NCAA and experienced something similar, on the monthly recruting update my head scout is always listing a bunch of 16, 17 and 18 years old retired players

There are some events that can retire players, I suspect that's what's happened here. Check the NHL news. Looking through a few test saves, Caufield usually has a normal career length.

Not related to the above; that's likely the product of some settings in the nonplayable league player movement system that I need to adjust. Although the recruiting scouting update shouldn't be showing any retired players, I'll take a look at that.

I had noticed this too, it would list 'These are the free agents that could help us at our weak positions' etc, a load of 2 star current and future guys, you'd click one of them and they'd have (retired) at the end of their name.

Also, I'm assuming this point is a designed function but seniors in the NCAA who graduate get the slew of 'retiring to spend time with the family/walks away from the game' media messages, is that normal?

They're getting that message when they leave in the spring after the season ends? I haven't seen that; it shouldn't be generating any kind of news right now (unless they sign somewhere.)

Yes, I have an NCAA save that was running since release. I've not played it since before the latest patch as I was waiting to have the fixes in. When my players who were seniors left at the end of the season they would generate 'retirement' messages about spending time with their families or walking away from the game or whatever. I'm going to pick up the NCAA game once HockeyPlaya has finished his jersey pack so I'll let you know if/when it happens again.
