Under Salary Cap

The season is getting close to starting and I am currently under the salary cap. What happens if I stay under the salary cap? Will I still be able to advance and play? Or do I need to make sure I sign or trade to get over the cap?

The goal is to be under the salary cap. The game will not advance if you are over the cap. As long as you're above the minimum payroll requirement and under the cap you're fine.

I just started playing this game again, after years away from it. Before the season, I lower the minimum cap to like 29k. I then start the game on July 1st, and start with an expansion team. Much like I do with the baseball game. I then draft mostly younger players, 25 and under for the first season, as I want to see how they develop, and how far I can take a team with such a small budget My current team is around 38k, and currently sitting in 6th place in the Eastern Conference(9 teams now). Not much of a hockey fan anymore, but just looking for a change over the Winter, a break from OOTP baseball, and Football Manager.

Under the Salary Cap or Salary Floor? If you go under the Salary Floor you won't be able to proceed until you sign a player to put you over. I'd rather be close to be over the Cap than close to under the Salary Floor. It's a pain to stay there with a bunch of young players who aren't asking for ridiculous contracts yet. You pretty much have to sign a Cap whale every year for the main roster until the team is far enough over the Floor to no longer need one.
