"Your pitcher is getting shelled"

The best new feature in the game. In past games, I'd get lazy and hit sim inning and my dude would give up 10 runs. Sincerely, such a small but beautiful change to the game.

I guess I haven't had a pitcher get beat up that bad yet... what happens?

If you sim a half inning or until next inning, if your pitcher gives up 4+ runs (or in a couple other cases like if they give up a few runs and lots of runners on-base), then it will simply bump you back to the substitutions screen and warn you. We've also tweaked the warning for when your pitcher is exhausted that does the same thing. Like if you got an injury, for example. You can still go back to the main page and continue the sim, but its just a warning so you don't go half inning at a time and suddenly your pitcher gives up 12 runs, as the AI will not do substitutions for you in that mode.

I will take credit for recommending this improvement out of my own laziness. . I'm glad it made it into OOTP 24, and thanks to Matt and the team for implementing it.

While playing out entire seasons, I sometimes use the sim entire inning to get through a couple of innings on defense, but previously this meant your pitcher would remain in the game without any warning until reaching exhaustion, regardless of how many runs were given up. Thankfully, there is now a limit and warning based on performance, although I would love to see it at 3 runs instead of 4. Even better, it would be great to have the option to set the preferred limit, especially in cases where it's a reliever and not a starter. Late in a game, the warning should be be quicker with relievers, since a manager is going to be quicker to hook them. But I'm happy to see a big step in the right direction here.

There are some cases it can trigger earlier with a reliever, but yes, it's definitely been requested and I think we've all been burned in the past by simming a half inning and suddenly you're losing 12-6 and your pitcher threw 76 pitches in the half inning...

It's always a balance between kicking you out too early, vs too late. I think if it's that close that 3 runs would make the difference, you really should not be simming the half inning, and should be doing RISP instead almost always. Where we have it should catch you before things get way too out of hand most of the time, or also kick out out if you aren't paying attention and click one too many times.

This is a very, very good change. Thank you for it. My team (and Sixto Sanchez's arm) thank you for it.

Sanchez was immediately DFAed after the game.

I have rage issues that I've never dealt with. So when I play this game and a pitcher unrealistically gives up 6 hits in a row and the game is over basically, I leave him in. One guy tore his labrum and was out for 2 years because I made him throw 210 pitches as punishment for sucking haha. Don't ask me why but I find it hilarious. If they don't get hurt they are traded or demoted following the game. I don't have time for that. Also who else has had "pitcher is getting shelled" on 7 runs.... this guy.... 3 runs prob scored then a grand slam. Great job pitch haha. I DO LOVE This game though it's amazing and addictive. But so many things happen in it that get me laughing maniacally like a 5 star closer repeatedly blowing 3 run saves on 4 straight hits on the road. Yup realistic haha
