Historical replay and pitcher GS

Relatively new to OOTP but I've noticed in historical replay seasons don't seem to produce the proper spread of pitcher starts across the league. Looking at 1962, there were 39 pitchers with 30+ starts, the high being 41 games. My OOTP replay (without using real historical lineups) resulted in 65 pitchers over 30, but maxed out at 36. This is with 5-man rotations, highest rested. Setting to 4-man rotations pushes way too many guys above 40 starts

Seems the AI engine doesn't employ spot starters or adjust rotations enough, while at the same time not spreading a few more starts to some of the stronger pitchers. Unfortunately, even when I max out injuries I get similar results, and overriding rotation settings for individual teams doesn't work because your changes get reset.

Anybody know of any other settings I'm missing that can address this issue?

It’s my experience too that when you set things to having the 4 man rotation, every team in the league will run a 4 man rotation, which is what I think you’re seeing. I personally act as the GM for every team in my league and so some teams go 4 men deep and some 5 (I play with 4 men because of the stamina) but I agree that things should be more flexible.

One thing that could help with that is using as played schedules. Teams in the 60s and 70s were brand new to the idea of plane travel making it easy to go from one place to another and as such some of the schedules were absolutely insane, like the Expos played I want to say 32 games in one month in 1971 - all of 2 days off and a bunch of doubleheaders. Teams should use spot starters in those situations because they have to. That also unfortunately might cause the game to pitch guys on crazy short rest…

In real 1962, some teams had 4-man rotations and others had 4-day-rest rotations. In OOTP you just have to kind of make one setting for all of the teams. I generally just do 5-man rotation, start highest rested and the aces generally get to 37 starts.
