Balancing minor league rosters
I prefer to have the AI handle most of the day-to-day of running my minor leagues. I check in on them regularly, moving players up and down, tweaking the lineup (via the force start option for either spot in the order and/or position), but enjoy spending most of my time running the day-to-day of my major league team.
But one thing I've noticed is that when the AI is in charge of minor league promotion/demotion, it does a horrible job of balancing the rosters of my minor league teams. It started the season with only 5 pitchers on my low A team despite having plenty of pitchers in the organization, as it left literally 20 pitchers on my AZL team (next lowest team) instead of promoting a handful to give low A a full staff. Then, midseason, I see my high a team has 16 hitters active, but its 13 infielders, 1 catcher and 2 outfielders. Obviously I'm able to fix this myself, but I feel like when I ask the AI GM to handle promotion/demotion he/she would do a better job of just balancing the rosters. Am I missing something? Doing something wrong? Or is this just a quirk of leaving that job to the AI GM? |

Could be a poor AI manager. Could be a few things.
Check to see if your minors have age limits or service time limits. This could prevent promotion/demotion. Do you have ghost players enabled? If so, full/balanced rosters aren't absolutely necessary. |

Things like this are what led to me taking a more active role in my minor leagues. I got fed up seeing the mismatched numbers after letting the ai set my minor leagues. I know what number of P, and players who can competently play C, IF, and OF I want at each level. It made more sense to me to take the extra time to handle it all myself. I keep 3 C, 7 IF, 5 OF and 15 P (6-8 SP 7-9 RP)(bp has 2 LR, 3-4 MR, 2 setup, 1 cl/stop, the rest unlabled) per level, in case of injuries. As I dialed in on the ratings or age I wanted per level, set up started to become second nature and the process became quicker. Do I neccessarily WANT to handle it all? No. Do I think I can make the easy enough? Probably. My internal debate is when to promote. My timeframe thoughts are between a month and the allstar break.

How do other AI minor league teams look? I ask because if the AI orgs are unbalanced, it could indicate a settings issue. if you're able to post a zip of your file, I'd be happy to poke around and see if anything is messed up.

The upper minors are generally fine. This was in April/May when AZL and DSL hadn't started yet, and it was my low-A that was all messed up. I took it over manually and fixed it myself, so nothing to send over, but thank you for the offer!
