One for the Mathematically-Inclined

Don't under any circumstances take this as a bug report or a dig at the game, it is purely to satisfy my own curiosity.

Heading into the final 3-game series of the regular season, a particular set of standings look like this:

In that final series, Laurel is playing Asbury Park.

Am I correct in assuming the following:
  • There is no possibility of Laurel and Asbury Park finishing tied in the standings?
  • Both Seaford and Hagerstown are, in fact, mathematically eliminated (from the division race, at least) because there is no actual way for them to leapfrog both Laurel and Asbury Park? If so, do you think the IRL official standings would show them as such, with an "e" next to their name?

Appreciate any clarification and / or insights.

Actually, I have an answer to one of my own questions after the rest of the season has played out.

The two lower teams wouldn't show the "e" because - while it was impossible for them to win the division - they were still in the WC race.

Thus,

and

So many things to consider at the end of a season. Too many, in this case, for my old eyes...

You are correct in your assumption.
Either Laurel or Asbury but not both will have 98 wins. (Laurel could finish with more than 98). The best Seaford or Hagerstown can do is 97 wins.

Now I am curious if the game takes matchups into account with eliminations. While you later noted that Seaford and Hagerstown were still in contention for the wildcard, would the game have marked them as eliminated in this case if the only available playoff berth was a division win?

If every team was playing a team outside the division for the final 3 games, they would be mathematically eligible to win the division, but does the game consider that because Laurel and Ashbury were playing each other the other two teams were already eliminated?

Precisely what I was trying to find out, along with whether the MLB would do so as well. Sadly, that pesky WC got in the way of us finding out.

As an aside, are those teams Seaford, Delaware and Laurel, Delaware? My old stomping grounds as a kid. And vintage Eastern Shore League territory, as well.
