In-Game Management: The Historical Colorado Rockies

Trying to see if I can manage the Rockies to have a better record each year than they did in real life...starting with their 1993 Expansion year.

This means entering each game (or, at least the VAST majority of them)* and simming out each at-bat.

This is from OOTP 23, with historical transactions (so that the same players are in the organization) and 3-year re-calc enabled (& doubling the ratings of current year) so that there may be some slight variation but not much, in player ratings.

I also have the development engine enabled, so that guys continue to develop during the season, until they get re-calculated. This can add some slight variation as well.

Lastly, I'm taking an approach that is "non-traditional," so to speak. As in, I don't care if a guy is my "closer," I want to use him in high leverage situations. I also won't hesitate to pitch position players if the game is out of hand, to save the bullpen. Not doing as much stealing & bunting as in real life (at that time in the 90's) either, unless it seems warranted. Besides that, am also focusing on the little intricacies of pinch running, pinch hitting, etc. that having only 7 RP's can allow one to do.

*For the games I didn't enter, I've changed all of the players' individual strategies to reflect how I want them to play.

Here is Video 1, if you want to see some action. Currently above .500 at 14-10! Daryl Boston just got player of the week as well...I'll continue to ride him while he's hot.

In-Game Managing the Historical Rockies Vid # 2

Getting close to halfway through the 1993 season now in the Rockies inaugural season ... currently several games ABOVE .500 with the Rockies roster!

Now, I attribute some of the offensive numbers to our solid hitting coach, but definitely have had to manage some close games & get us some wins.

In this video, made a few in-game managerial mistakes, but made some good moves too... the final game of this video was definitely a doozy!

Vid #3: In-Game Managing the Historical Rockies- See Who Makes the All-Star Game

Nearing the All-Star game, entering in the 9th inning of the Braves series with BASES LOADED and Andres Galarraga up to bat.

Also, see who makes the 1993 All-Star game as we finish up the first half.

Video #3 of 1993 Rockies Season w/ Hist Transactions Enabled

Nearing the end of the season and chasing .500 as the 1993 Rockies!

Historical transactions enabled...playing out the vast majority of the games, trying to manage them strategically.

Several surprises including Daryl Boston, Greg Harris (who the Rockies traded for) and pretty much the entire pitching staff.

Check out some of the games here - https://youtube.com/live/qFvuQgconjI

---------------------------------------------------------------

Managing the Rockies (OOTP 23) with historical transactions enabled (so that all the same players are in all organizations as they were in real life), but the freedom to move players up & down from minors, and also I am entering the games to manage them & see if I can have a better record each year with the Rockies than they did in real life...starting with their 1993 Expansion year.

Finishing the 1993 Season

OK unfortunately I just did a whole video but didn't push GO LIVE and so it streamed to NOBODY, lol damn.

So the 1993 season finished up, Colorado ended up at 73 and 89, which was a decent bit better than the Rockies in real life. I finished with quite the losing skid, but did beat the NL West champ Braves in our final game of the year.

Phillies & Braves were winners by far of their respective divisions...David Justice with a big year, 45 jacks. And John Kruk won the batting title.

In the AL, we had a much tighter race with the Yankees and Blue Jays pushing for the division lead, and the Royals leading the AL East, Chicago White Sox right on their heels.

Yanks ended up taking it with a hot finish...having brought some good young prospects up earlier than in real life (Petitte, Rivera), and the Royals had some great pitching & defense with Montgomery, Cone, Appier all having great years.

And the winner of the World Series ended up being.............

The YANKEES. They got super hot & swept through the Phillies to win in 4.
