new player seeking clarity on major/supp roles

Hello. I am playing as coach and GM. Major and supplementary roles are overall unclear to me, to the point that I suspect they don't matter and are from an old version of the game. Is this true?

When selected from the list, they don't display anywhere that I can see on the UI. There is no indication that the role was changed, and no indication of a player's current major/supplemental role. If they are important, I would like for them to be displayed in some way on a player's profile, perhaps with a mouse-over blurb, so I can keep better track of what player has what major/supp role.

The only role that is indicated on the UI is the player's "Role" listed under role ratings. Is this the same as their "tactical role" that I sometimes see mentioned? Is this all the matters now?

In the online manual, all that is mentioned are major and supplemental roles, leading to overall confusion.

Any education/clarity would be appreciated. Thanks!

Alright, apologies - I found major/supplemental role details in a player's contract tab and I can see them when comparing two players. The placement in the UI still seems a bit strange, and I still wouldn't mind a little more information about player's "role" or "tactical role" compared to their major/supp roles.
