player editor- pitching

why can't you edit hits allowed for pitchers? Is there a work-around?

We haven't been able to edit hits allowed since ever as far as I know.

I'm not entirely sure why, but I imagine it's because pitchers have very complex ratings where many different ratings feeds into the HA #. The work around is to edit ratings manually until the HA value is what you want it to be

Here's some good discussion on entering pitching stats in the Player Editor:
https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...d.php?t=346128

In addition, in the beta group I had asked about it not being able to enter hits & other basic pitchings stats, and contending that entering stats for pitchers is pretty much impossible. luckymann provided some valuable insight:

Now, I agree wholeheartedly that editing pitchers is far more challenging and less straightforward than for hitters. But it isn't because you can't enter certain stats - it is because you are required to know so much more anecdotally about pitchers in order to not just select the types of pitchers they throw but how well they throw them, both at their worst and best over the course of their career.

Essentially, HRA gives you the movement MOV rating; BB the control CON rating. The GB% is some sort of combination of these. Velo + pitch profiles + K work together to give you the Stuff STU rating.

When editing pitcher data, I always work from a standardised 250 IP. When you enter the fields in the resulting stats section, the IP figure "floats" to meet some sort of formulaic requirement I know not what. I always retype 250 IP before asking for the ratings.
...
The other thing I have come up against when editing pitchers is, of course, what I call their "era sensitivity". Pitchers from deadball years when edited manually as per the raw stats will almost invariably come out with a low STU / exponentially high MOV profile. This is because the ratings are being generated for a modern MLB environment. So you need to develop a feel for finding the sweet spot for how you want these guys to profile while keeping them in the bell curve of verisimilitude...
Hopefully this helps!
