I Need Tips & Tricks For Using 7 Day Lineups

I have never used this feature since it debuted. What I do is on game day I look at how the batter matches up with that days SP and if he struggles vs that Sp then i looks to see who else has success at start that player.

I don't really want to go through each and every batter vs each SP in each series. Maybe i am over complicating it.

The idea behind daily lineups is that they give you the option to rotate players exactly as you want and build the batting order according to the players playing on a given day.

I play as a GM with control of lineups and don't manage the games. If I were to rely on the depth chart only, I wouldn't be able to easily tell who will play when. Moreover, whenever a bench player gets to start, the batting order gets set by the manager, ignoring the original order decided by me.

I don't think it makes sense to base lineup decisions based on pitcher vs batter history. I mainly look at handedness, and if I know the pitcher is HR-prone or BB-prone, I may insert batters to exploit those weaknesses.

Yeah, what kidd says for me.

I like Daily Lineups since it lets me decide exactly when everyone gets off-days (like trying to line them up against same-handed pitching), and then what the lineup looks like when a given player is resting. It also lets me do small little things that the game doesn't care about/model but help immersion for me, like not having someone Catch both ends of a night-day pair, or having one of my pitchers always pitch to a specific Catcher.

I use it to get my 5th or 6th starter in the game as a spot starter. Many versions ago the game let you set a percentage for a spot starter so you would get them in the game occasionally.

Here’s what I learned the hard way. Don’t disable the options to use subs or alternate lineups. I had a sim with meticulous daily lineups with platooning. It was 1938 so most guys played everyday. As the season wore on, fatigue and then exhaustion set in for guys who had minor injuries and never got a day off. I didn’t realize why the drop-off in performance until too late. If you don’t want to micromanage (literally) daily, you need to program rest every so often, or give the AI some flexibility.

I disable the subs and alternate lineups and check in every week or so generally (or, in online leagues, exactly every week) and haven't had any issues. Occasionally I'll mistime something and have one player be more tired than I expected and so need to sit the day I check in, but as long as I'm diligent about giving off-days relative to defensive intensity I find it works.

Catchers usually need a day every 2-3, CFs and SSs every 5-6, and RF/LF/2B/3B every 8-10 days or so. My experience is that off-days usually cover about 95% of the rest days for the last group, and about 2/3s of the rest days for the middle group- though that would obviously depend on your schedule/league setup and how closely it mirrors MLB.

One of the newer features applicable to daily lineups is the ability to set the depth chart, listing who should come off the bench, if the starter is tired. And you can also set the sub to play every third day, or whatever. As you suggest, catchers need those days off.

Where is the 7 day lineups screen?

Maybe I'm stupid, but I can't find it.
