so if you want a pitcher to PR you have to set them as 2 way player?
this was common pre 80s

No, it’s very specifically that they have a two way player that they want to remove for a pinch runner. I *believe* you should be able to do this via the lineup widget, by clicking on the little button next to the player name and opening up the list of available pinch runners the way you would with any other player. It may be that the game prevents you from doing so in the lineup screen, I’m not sure.

Definitely don't have to have a P set as 2 way to use as a PR. I have a pitcher that has good baserunning skills that I use here and there to PR in my game without issue.

I'm not sure whether replacing a P/DH while on offense is coded correctly.

It wouldn't let me use a position player as a pitcher to replace the DH/SP so he could run. In the end, it didn't affect the game but it was annoying at the time. i also of course tried using a bench player to go in at DH and it wouldn't let me do that.

I tested this out and you should be able to do it with the lineup widget. I realize this is a workaround but it's a workaround that works.

I can’t say for certain, but when you move your DH to a position in MLB you lose your DH. It feels like this is either a programming loop that is getting stuck on, or a protection against circumventing that rule. Pinch running for a 2-way player who is both pitching and batting for himself may have blown AIs mind!
