Player development question

What is the best way to develop a player that plays multiple positions?

Their ratings will improve as they have experience. They get experience by playing. So, manage their playing time so that they are getting experience wherever you want them to improve.

Especially in Spring Training (where they will learn faster).

It looks like OOTP25 will provide more possibilities for this as well with the Development Lab.

with this player specifically, it looks like he's better suited for 2B rather than SS or 3B. He doesn't have the arm for that side of the infield. Since it looks like he's a draft target of yours, coming out of college, I'd start him off at Low-A as the 2B. Put him as the backup at SS (if starter tired), at 3B (if starter tired), and then also have him as the 2nd or 3rd string LF. Ideally he'd become sufficient but not great at those other positions, just so he can continue having playing time, but he's likely a 2B long-term. He could be a passable utility infielder if his bat comes along and he warrants playing 4-5 times a week, but I won't plan on that this early in his career. The nice thing about his profile though is that he already has playing experience at all of those other positions, as shown by him even being rated at them at all. so the AI coaches will likely use him in those from time to time. With his lack of true power I don't see him as a good long-term LF though. So my advice is enjoy him being starting caliber 2B.

every year or maybe 70-80 MIL games force them to play a new position in the player strategey screen...by the time they are approaching ML it shouldn't be an issue except for the ones that develop SUPER fast.

Sometimes i allow need to dictate waht they learn.. e.g. if i have too many decent LF at a particular level i'll put the multi-position guy somewhere else and learn lf later. it can help make sure the right players get the most playing time.

This is the type of hand-tailored approach i will only do for aplayer that has use in the ML .. .so, very few of total mil players. Keep a shortlist.. those are the ones you want to be more responsive to their development and promotions... let the MiL filler sandbag a bit unless necessary as part of musical chairs of more important prospects moving around. Good teams promote happier players.. one less thing to rehabilitate if they make the ML.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I ended up drafting him in the 5th round, put him i A ball, 2nd base. For some reason I'm always trying to develop Kyle Farmer types
