Question Way too many prodigies being generated, who all die...

It's year 2030 and the prospect pipeline is overflowing with 17~19 yr olds with potential to become the next Ted Williams

There are LOADs of 70+ potential high school graduates in the draft pool each year, but sadly they don't really seem to develop

For years, their CA is stuck at around 25 for all aspects of their game

So after 2~3 disappointing years in rookie league, most guys from the prospect pipeline fail to reach 30 CA & become duds, only to be replaced by new prodigies from the draft, int amateurs, discoveries...etc

Who then again fail to develop and go down the same road

so currently I'm just drafting players from college & using international amateurs as trade chips to buy relievers on the deadline, before their PA starts plummeting

I'm wondering if this is a problem that is to mended in the near future or simply a feature of the game that i should become used to...?

If you play with scouting on, maybe your scout is overvaluing young players?

I am definitely experiencing the same here. Lots of high potential players who never make it. Way more than in previous games

I’ve also encountered super prospects but I use and always use High Tools and and haven’t noticed it being hugely different.

Have also put a 30 mil development budget on and developed an INTL find with 95 Potential Power who’s currently 19 with 70 Current Power in AA just from one good offseason program and passive dev focus.

I know there’s currently an issue with dev speed being too slow so you could adjust your game setting to speed it up, buti’m sure till patched up quick as well

There was a bug affecting the initial current ratings of generated players that was causing them to be too low and probably made development harder. We've fixed this up for the next patch. The fairly high potentials and players not living up to them though are just kind of how prospects work in-game. That won't change with the adjustment to the current ratings of players entering the league.

Having same issues as OP mentioned, not seeing any prospects really developing, and I have dumped over 30 million into player development.

well that explains a lot of things

thanks for the reply

may you sell a billion copies

maybe I should try to hire scouts who highly prefer CA or play with scouting off in a new save then

Tangential question...
Is that what these settings actually do for Scouts?

If not, which settings influence that? I'm finding out I've played this game a long, long time now based on assumptions which may not be accurate. ha

I think (though not 100% certain) those sliders impact GM decisions, not scouting. I believe a scout would be more likely to overvalue young players if he highly favors tools. It seems to be received wisdom around these parts that highly favors tools is strictly better but I'm not sure why that is.

The reasoning is that 100% of the results within the game are driven by the ratings. So the "tools" are the only thing that matter when it comes to accurately evaluating players. If a guy with 20 grade Contact could get lucky enough to hit .300 over an MLB season in the game, he's still worthless as a hitter for projecting him onto your roster going forward.

I came here to see if anyone else was having this issue. Thanks for the update. To get around it, I've had to edit current stats for some prospects so they can get over the hump of Rookie ball. They seem to develop better after that. I also have dev speed set to .80

For reference, I play with 100% scout accuracy, $25-30M dev budget, and nearly all of my coaches have outstanding or better in teaching hitting/pitching and handle dev.
