Disruptive personality
How bad is it? For a backup? I'm filling the last OF spot on my roster. I have a guy that plays all 3 OF positions (60, 60, 70 DEF) and would be a good right handed PH.
But, he has a disruptive personality. High Financial Ambition. Low Leader, Loyalty, Work Ethic, and Intelligence. The other choices are considerably worse. So again, how bad would it be if I keep this guy? |

On a happy, well performing team with good leadership it's not going to move the needle. I am not a fan of high financial ambition players as they tend to ask for more money than they deserve, also I feel that at least in my saves low work ethic and low intelligence guys don't develop and learn positions well enough. I might consider a greedy, lazy and dumb player if he is a really valuable asset. Anyway, I don't think you should be concerned, just go and check your team's chemistry page, see if this move might tip the scales. Likely it won't.

I would never sign/keep a player with low leader, intelligence or work ethic.

If your team is winning you can have a clubhouse full of these types and you’ll be fine. Once you stop, though, if you stop, you’d better keep these guys happy or else move them or you’ll bring the whole team down. That said, someone can give them deals and sometimes stars have bad personalities you can learn to live with. I’m reminded of Manny Ramirez but the super massive HR hitter in my game has a Disruptive personality; his team learns to live with it because it comes with 65 HRs a year.

Bingo!
I tend to stay away from the divisive traits if at all possible. Usually I justify this by remembering that I choose to generally play less front-runner teams with enormous budgets, so my margin for error is much less with the mid-to-lower tier franchises. But, to each his own. There are ways around the issues/baggage those players bring, but at the end of the day I just choose to not deal with it and move on.

I think the same with guys who are low INT/WE. We all avoid them like the plague, but I think the impact like most traits is overvalued. Probably a lot of talent being left on the table in our games haha.

Reggie Jackson was the ultimate disruptive personality. I was never a big fan; but in October, yeah, I want that guy on my team.
A baseball team is not a yoga class (said with all respect to yoga teachers, who I enjoy). Tinker, Evers, and Chance did not get along. So what?

I can understand overthinking it if the player is going be a feature on your team but as someone who is the last roster spot, meaning they can be let go at any time, it's a bit much to worry about his personality.
As others mentioned one player won't have a dramatic effect, so I'd go for it. But what do I know, I'm canceled |

I didn't really see the potential impact of Disruptive Personalities until I was doing a fictional league and I managed to acquire two players who were basically equivalent to Manny Ramirez and Alex Rodriguez. My offense suddenly boosted for not a lot of cost, I expected a nice little boost in the standings.
If I recall correctly, there was a brief boost, followed by the opposite. The team hit a slump and then the team chemistry went through the floor. I ended up trading both at a loss and barely salvaging the season. Rarely will I keep one on the team for any length of time at all anymore. If I end up with one in the minors, he's usually trade bait. I almost never consider anyone with negatives in both intelligence and work ethic. And if I get anyone disruptive, say to cover for an injury, I check chemistry often. |
