Inaugural Draft Fail
1st round pick in the 1901 draft was John Smoltz. Sure, I said to allow early entry, but I though that the game would use some intelligent parameters, not draft a guy 66 years before he was born! Isn't there a way to make it a bit more realistic when creating a historical league without throwing normal possibilities out the window? Is this because I didn't set any parameters on the years for the inaugural draft. Any suggestions on the year range for a 1901 draft? Maybe from 1880 to 1910? Is that too big of a gap. I always thought there was an option somewhere to have players debut within a +/- of their original date, but now I'm not so sure. I've never actually held a draft before and always just started in a historical year.

You have Random Debut selected. The date range limits the entirety of the players that will appear in the sim. If left open-ended, anyone that played in MLB could appear at any time including the inaugural draft.
If you want an inaugural draft of all the players in a 1901 start up, just start a historical game in 1901 and turn on the inaugural draft. Ensure Random Debut is not selected. Everyone that played in 1901 and a few free agents hanging around from the 19th c. will be available.

I just tried another attempt to create a historical league. It seems that the only way I can get an inaugural draft is to use Random Debut Mode. Using the wizard, there is no prompt to start a historical career mode league with an inaugural draft. It automatically sets things up historically.

So, two separate toggles. When in the Wizard set-up for the 1901 game, go to Advanced Mode. Hit Yes at the pop-up.
Then look for the Inaugural Draft (Fantasy Draft) - top of one of the tabs. And then enable amateur draft for the follow-on years - bottom of one of the pages. Here are screenshots to guide you in the Advanced set-up. All the settings in the Wizard are also in here too so you can customize any other settings you want wrt gameplay. Then hitting that green button on the far left is like the last step in the Wizard. I

Thank you so much for helping me with that. This time the 1st draft choice was Nap Lajoie, so I think I'm on the right track!
