Editing nations in the world xml file impact on historical players

I am working on a world that uses both real historical players and fictional players. I am looking to split USA into 2 nations, Western United States and Eastern United States.

And remove the current United States (make it a region). I know how to do this by editing the world xml file

Question I have is how this would affect historical players on their nationality when they get imported into the game. Would their nationality change depending on which side of the country they were born or have any nationality at all if the old USA nation id is no longer there.

Thanks

I'm about 120 years into a league where I split USA and CSA. Maybe somebody smarter than me can clue you in, but I tried editing just about every file I could find and I couldn't get the historical players to come out right. I probably edited everyone except the right one. Every player born in the south would just come out with USA as the nationality and unknown as the city. I have been manually editing every draft class when its announced.

Yeah. I'm thinking in order to make the historical players load as a nationality of the "New USA", I would need to be able to access the player database and modify that in there for each player.

Not ideal, but would make sense.

If you have OCD like me, editing each draft class was a must anyway. The game imports the historical players and assigns them the city/state combination with the highest population. So, for instance, you see a lot of guys from Peoria, AZ......never Peoria, IL. Irks me.

It would change their nationality immediately to the new country when you reimport the world and names file, but you could get around this by making your new nation have 100% dual citizenship with the old nation, it won't change the existing guys but it'll make sure anyone new coming in does akin to Puerto Rico/USA.

It's better to do this in a new league than in an existing one for that reason, though lots of ways it can happen I guess akin to a new nation being born of an old one (South Sudan from Sudan)

The easiest way to do this would be to remove the US states that you want to be in your new country so they're no longer associated with the US and keep their nation/state ID the same and then it'll load them into the new nation. You have to reload the world.xml and nations file to make it work though and like I said it's easier to do this from the start rather than in an existing country but it's still doable this way, so long as you do an update of the world.xml data and make sure your new country uses an existing nameset

I did this, exactly as you lay out. It just doesn't have any bearing on the historical players nationality.

I do do some editting each class, mainly for players that have Unknown as their city as I need to them to qualify in a specific state.

I never thought of ootp importing guys and assigning to the wrong state though! I'll have to keep an eye out.

The second nationality wont help me as this is mainly for tournament purposes, unless you know there is a way to turn off players from being able to play for their 2nd nationality.

Right now I need to go into the file and remove 2nd nationalities from a whole bunch of nations for loading fictional players as it has become a pain to do it manually for each player come tournament time to ensure they are playing for the right country.

My plan was to create the new Western USA and cut all of the western states/cities out from the current USA, moving them into the new USA, so everything would still exist as is..

Then I realized all the real players are likely linked to nation id regardless of where they are from, so this may end up doing nothing to help. lol. And as per Khephren, it seems he has done this already without success.

May need to think of a new plan.

I started out the same as you. In the early drafts, there are a lot of players from Troy, NY. I noticed quite a few players from Troy, MI. That was the tip-off.
