Hanging at 99% for Team History

When I try to create a historical league, the game loads through most of the setup process as normal, but stops responding at 99% for "Team History", pretty much crashing. I've tried clearing more space on the C drive (90 GB free as of now), running Steam in administrator mode, and uninstalling and reinstalling the game, but nothing seems to work. Is there a way to fix this, or am I missing something?

If you're playing a later years game, you need to wait a wait. It'll say it's not responding, but it's actually still loading. Give it some time and it'll load.

Yes, if you're e.g. starting a game in the 2020's, the game has to build all the player history for the "Real Stats" screen, which can take quite a while given the number of players with NHL (and now AHL) history by that point.
