Player Value
Why doesn't my 25-yo 3.5 star/4star potential LF have any trade value? He's on league min w/ 1+ service years, has 122 OPS+ and 3.1 WAR in 165 games. 70 defense in LF, 65 in RF. Sparkplug personality w/ high work ethic and adaptability.
Multiple win now teams w/ cap room have red or yellow in RF and LF (Dbacks yellow in both, Cubs red in LF yellow in RF, Angels yellow in LF, Brewers yellow in both, Mets red in RF, Phillies yellow in LF, Giants yellow in both, Cardinals yellow in both) but I can't get even a half star prospect or 20th round pick from any team. They're asking me to give up like 3 star prospects + this guy to get anything at all. |

I sense this trend in my league too. I think it's part of regular trade market things.
My feel: He's a player type that is either or both less valuable in the playoffs or peaks early (either very low contact/avoid Ks or very high contact/very low HR); Teams don't really do like-for-like trades much at all (which is mostly realistic); established players vs. prospect balance // value in trades vs. value in free agency in the league is off. With lots of payroll room they could be waiting for free agency; especially if future free agents are very high reward. Also modern expanded playoffs maybe. |
