Before I delete v25...

This year I created 5 teams. I was curious if my different approaches to PT would result in different results. Keep in mind I'm a "casual" player. No $$, and I don't spend a lot of effort analyzing the fine details of the game. In addition, I tended to tapper off my attention after the All-Star break when it became obvious I was falling further behind the pack.

One thing that is obvious (reviewing my results), however, is my different approaches didn't really have that much effect. My best team played .536 with 10 1st Place finishes - and my worst team played .495 with 12 1st Place finishes.

The second thing I noticed is that a LOT depends on who you get matched up with every season/week. You can go from good-to-bad in two consecutive weeks with the same roster depending on your competitors.

Two conclusions;

I will likely focus on only one team this year so my time & attention isn't divided 5 ways.

My 2nd conclusion is a wish to the developers; Please try and offer an option that is something different than the Promotion/Relegation model. For players who will stop at nothing to win, that works well - but for casual players; we just want something that's more consistent.

Hoping I'll find more enjoyment in v26.

This is the one thing that would get me back to Perfect Team. I have no desire to "climb the ladder" or play tournaments. I just want to build a team and fiddle with it a little each day.

I would like a "capped" league option with a maximum of perfects and diamonds (say 3P/8D) on your active roster. Another option would be a "live only" league. There would be no promotion/demotion cycle in these "non-ladder" leagues. You just get randomly placed in a league with other "non-ladder" players each week. Standings in your category could be based on championships, playoff appearances, wins, stats titles, etc. with perhaps a point scheme to combine all of these elements in a season score.

I know why this type of league placement scheme isn't done, but it doesn't stop me from wishing for it. Otherwise, I will just keep playing the franchise mode.

The options you are looking for are in tournaments.

Cap leagues is an interesting idea. I'm not sure how it could be implemented alongside the ratings creep, but it's probably doable. It would also be a better simulation of actual baseball, where even the best teams have weaknesses and a spread of talent levels.

Not really, but they could be. The last discussion like this that I remember, people pointed out that week long tournament formats that simulated a league would be the easiest way to provide what Orcin is describing.

No, they are not. I am asking for a casual version of league play. Week-long tournaments could work, but I would still have to show up at a specific time to enter. League play doesn't require that.

If that tournament format can be made, why not just make it a permanent tournament? Then the teams could be shuffled between the multiple running versions of it from week to week. Results/stats history could be retained in the same way that league play does. Now you are getting close to what I want.

Or this...

Bottom line is the current format has nothing to give the "casual players" beyond the first couple of months when you can make a sprint to the top if your lucky enough. At some point, however, your going to become overwhelmed by the teams that P2P.

If you want to keep folks interested in PT after the All-Star break, you have to give them GOALS to try and reach - otherwise they will abandon PT and return to the Classic game.

Maybe, don't play the first couple of months? That is when the game is the hardest for the reason you state. So, in PT26, I'm taking it easy and will only open the starter packs and let it ride until Christmas. You knock yourself out against the P2P by playing April, May, and June. I'll play against the ghost teams in January, February, and March. Let's compare notes when PT27 starts and see who had the most fun!

BTW, returning to the Classic game is not a bad result for OOTP. They don't care how you play the game as long as you play the game!
