I wonder when we will see umpires on the playing field? That will add another level of immersion to the played-out games.

I brought up the idea of adding umpires a while back but it didn't get any traction. In fact, most didn't like the idea. I still think it would be great. A player in the batter's box would be cool too!

Wouldn't mind seeing an umpire calling a strikeout. And if they could make Leslie Nielsen an honorary umpire even better. Maybe give a choice between the computer aided strike zone umpire or one that depends on an umpire's strike zone preference. Where some umpires have bigger strike zones than other umpires. Could lead to more arguments and maybe motivation for a team. |

I won't complain if they add umps on the field
. If they were rated, with some good and some bad, I don't think it would really change much in the results of games. If it did it wouldn't be working as it should IMHO. The vast majority of ump calls in a game are easy calls. The few really bad calls are the ones that stick in one's mind.I do think that it would open a can of worms with the pbp as they would almost have to add to it to cover the umpire's calls. Also if they are there they'd need to move and not be statues and we have the issue "they're not in the right place". etc. In my mind it's a developer's decision and I'll work with whatever they give us. As for me? I'd rather they spent that 3d coding time refining player movement and play results on the field. Tighten up the timing of the plays we have and continue to add more to the player models where possible. Team specific batting helmets with L&R ear flaps or no ear flaps, batters in caps for historical games, catchers with backwards caps or helmets etc. My 2 cents.
