Still not Create-a-Schedule mode

I feel like for a game that practically has thought out everything, this is one of the final missing pieces. I know there is a massive library of user-created schedules out there, but there are so many use cases I would like to deploy that are limited by the lack of schedules available.

I've put this idea in the suggestion box at least for the last couple of iterations. I hope that one day the developers will figure out a way to deploy this feature effectively.

I'd love an option that lets us set the start of the season, the END of the season, and then space the games out equally.

Can 't be too long before we hand this over to AI. Just give it the parameters & so forth, and OOTP's schedule file format...

Scheduling is incredibly complex. I do it just for 24 teams and 8 games and its a pain if it is not very direct with how you schedule opponents. There are so many variables that can change and cause issues when building schedules. Now multiply that to 162 game schedules.

The game will break if you dont have all of the teams scheduled correctly and you have to have logic to being able to think of all of the possibilities of how a schedule could go wrong to build in a check. And if you miss something, you possibly bork all the work done or even the file.

Its something I see people like the idea of having but the actual implementation of it is far more complex than you would think.

It's so complicated to make good MLB schedules that I think you'd for sure complain about it if you looked close enough at it. If you're picky enough that you don't like the ones made by a meticulous schedule maker, you for sure wouldn't like one that wasn't. As brilliant as the devs may be, I don't think they could come up with a schedule maker that would make better schedules than, for example, gmo. It'd be a pointless endeavor.

The best I think we could hope for is allowing for more features with hand-crafted ones. Like the other day I saw a thread where someone asked how we could schedule MLB's opening day in Japan. That's just not possible right now, but it would be kind of neat if that capability was added with a ballpark attribute. And I'm sure there are other ideas that could be built into them.

EDIT: I went back to the thread and apparently you can add a park attribute to the schedule files! Cool.

I don't know all that what would go into it, or how many man hours would be needed. Could it be outsourced? Perhaps. But other modern sports sims have this feature, so I know it's not an impossibility.

What I'm asking for is a feature that allows you to set how many games you play within division, within conference, and outside of conference, and then spit out a schedule. I know in NHL 24 (maybe earlier versions), this is a feature when you set up Franchise Mode.

Then, at the very least, I'd like to be provided a detailed tutorial on how to make the schedules in the file format the game requires (.ldsl I think?). The community used to have members who would make tailored schedules on demand, but I don't know if those folks are around anymore. I'd be happy to learn how to do this myself if I knew how to begin.

This is a sandbox game extraordinaire. Meaning, years could be spent customizing all that is available. Also meaning, those who are successful tend to take it upon themselves. It requires a fair bit of initiative.

It sounds like you haven't looked. Here's the board for them. There's a tutorial by thehip41 stickied there. I learned by a combination of it, gmo's, and KevinTMC's. There's also a sticky of a very impressive lengthy list of schedules compiled by joefromchicago. As for if the makers are still there, gmo, probably the most prolific and famous of them, posted just this month.

To anyone who wants this, I'd ask you, what about the already created schedules do you not like? Is it just that you'd somehow feel better if they were created by some AI? Why? Anything made by humans is almost always better than something made by AI. Sure, we may take longer to make things, but we usually do a far better job. Did you have a bad experience with one? If you did, look at who made it and maybe try one from someone else. Or maybe it was one of that person's first few and if that is the case, try a more recent one by them (my first one wasn't great). If the devs created a schedule generator it might be neat, but it'd almost be guaranteed not to be better. If there is something that you don't like about the human made ones, tell us exactly what you don't like about them and maybe we can make them take whatever that is into consideration. Some schedule makers might just throw them together, but I assure you the best don't. I've had conversations with gmo that you'd probably think, "wow, I don't need my schedule to take nearly that much realisticness into consideration!".

If there are ideas to make them better, I'd love to hear them. Otherwise, just try one of the already existing ones. You might love it, and if you don't, try another by someone else. Or if you'd like a challenge, try making your own. If you like puzzles, you might like it.
