3rd Minor Penalty Errors with 2D Game
I've noticed for while that the 2D game does not correctly handle a third minor penalty to the same team within a two minute period. I finally think I understand what error is occurring. Attached below is a screenshot of a boxscore from a 53-54 historical game between the Canadiens and the Bruins. The Canadiens received three two minute minors within less than a minute. Fleming Mackell took the last penalty at 13:13 of the period, but he did not leave the ice. He continued on the 5-3 penalty kill as if no penalty had occurred. The Canadiens killed off the 5-3 and then subsequently the 5-4. When the next play stoppage occurred at 16:41, then Mackell went into the box to take his penalty. Two errors here: 1) Mackell should have gone into the box immediately, although a substitute could take his place on the ice, 2) Mackell's penalty should begin immediately following the end of the first minor, not at the next play stoppage.
I don't have an example, but I think the same thing is occurring when there are coincidental minors during a four on three. The team with the man advantage loses a man and it becomes a three on three (it should remain a four on three) and the penalty to the shorthanded team occurs at the next play stoppage.
