Having issues with league expansion. I am sure it's something simple
Sorry cross post just didn't get much views in general. Anyway, Back around OOTP 20 I had no problems with this but for some reason I am having issues here. (this is using OOTP 25 but went ahead got ootp 26)
When I start expansion draft I get message that there is error with unequal amount of Rookie League teams. I don't understand. Every which way I try to place them it complaining (East/North/South/Auto forgot the division names within the league) Even adding two teams to the exact same rookie league/division it happens and have no idea how this is possible. This effected me in OOTP 25 and lived with it but I want to start expanding through out the years on my this long term save. Taking over expansion team use to be my favorite thing |

I love to set up expansion and take one of the new teams, so I feel your pain. When I have seen that error message, it was because (I think) the AI wanted a place to put players in the new team's system. Creating a new minor league system for expansion teams is kind of a chicken/egg problem. It's hard to create an organization before expansion - or before the draft. But once the draft starts, you need somewhere to place the guys who don't make the active roster. Which sucks, because, ideally, you would like to have minor league teams before the first year of MLB play by the expansion team. As I recall, when I added the minor league teams to the expansion team's organization, that solved the problem. No more error message.

I can be obsessive on expansion, but I only let established teams protect twelve players on their roster - plus anyone with less than three years MLB experience (the default setting for that). That yields a better pool of players to draft. It actually hurts the better, deeper, teams.
I also allow the expansion teams to participate in the amateur draft and to pick first. I hae never understood why expansion teams have to suck by design. Why not allow a new city to have a competitive team? Also, I have expansion team budgets that allow for signing free agents.
