Fundamental Issue with Depth Chart?

It dawned on me that I may be using the depth chart incorrectly. Normally one would think that it if a hitter is starting, it makes no sense to assign him a pinch hit role, right? Pinch hitter order are for the guys on the bench.

What if a have a platoon at 1B. Player A starts against RHP and Player B starts against LHP. During a game that Player A started, the opponent inserted a LHP out of the bullpen. Now the vs LHP depth chart is being used, right? I want Player B to bat against LHP, but he is not listed among my pinch hitters.

Perhaps there's logic behind the manager selecting a pinch hitter, but it almost seems like it's most beneficial to leave pinch hitters blank so the manager can just select the best one on the bench for the situation.

If I'm using a platoon, I usually try and counter the issue you've raised by adjusting the player's individual strategy in the way shown below. The more aggressive I want to counter this, the further right I nudge the slider and I further granulate it by using the slider above it as well.

You need to be careful, however, because obviously you only have one bullet per player with PHing so you need to make sure you fire it when you want to and only then. this is where the "min inning" setting is useful.

Tough to get it absolutely spot on other than playing out every game but I think OOTP does a pretty good job of it.
