My pitcher: 6 innings, 0 hits, 0 runs, not tired = taken out for PH

Please stop doing this.

I understand that the pinch-hitter came into the bottom of the 6th of a 0-0 tie and a run scored, but the bullpen gave up the no-hitter and the shutout. And we scored 4 runs later anyway in a 5-2 win.

A team strategy option to "Don't pull starters with no-hitters" would be nice. I could maybe understand an exhausted pitcher, but this was a knuckleballer with 71 pitches thrown.

I couldn't live the win. I killed OOTP and re-simmed the game just so I wouldn't have to look at that monstrosity of a box score.


EDIT: OMG. The same pitcher (Phil Niekro) just did it AGAIN. 6 innings, 0 hits, 64 pitches in a 0-0 tie and taken out for a pinch-hitter (didn't score a run). We won 1-0 in 12 innings. Pulled with a no-hitter after 6 innings in back-to-back starts. 100% rested going into both starts. Unbelievable. I know no one believes this, I don't care. I'm flabbergasted and deleting the game again.

You should maybe control the game yourself over allowing the AI to do upset you so much? Set high pitch counts on your pitchers like 150 and face batters to 35 set your hook to VERY SLOW. There are many things you can change that can help avoid what you are seeing.

It also depends on what era you are in. If you are using Phil in 2025, you can see the issues. If you are using him in the 70's then check the settings.

Make sure under league settings>Stats and AI that
Hook starting pitcher set it to +3 to+5 for very slow. Set pitcher stamina to high. Also set Pinch Hit for Pitchers set to normal or rarely.

Then check under your Team Name, Strategy which is your global strategy.

Make sure that your hook there is more on the slower side so your coach will not pull a pitcher too fast and also SET THE Pinch hit for pitchers to almost never.

Everything you want is in the game. NOW, if you have all of this set and it is still doing it, then something needs to be check into

You are asking me to set broad AI changes for a special case. I just want the AI to recognize, like managers used to do in the real world, that there is a NO-HITTER going on. It's annoying because it's so unreal.

I don't suddenly want every pitcher in the league (or on my team) to suddenly have a slow hook because of that rare situation when there is a no-hitter going on. So no, what I want is actually not in the game.

I'm honestly still a little stunned that I took the time to post about this problem and that it IMMEDIATELY happened again on the very next start by the same pitcher.

Stop calling it "AI". What would be a more appropriate name for something that doesn't learn, adapt, or remember? The Guessatron? The Pretendelligence Engine? Or NotAI™?

And by the way, Niekro going 6 hitless innings in back-to-back starts is amazing. I remember watching him pitch. The dude retired at 48!

It's not TRUE AI. Do not treat it as such as it will ONLY do what you ask of it. It is not going to see "Oh this pitcher has a no hitter going! Better leave him in" it is going to look at your sliders, your pitch counts, your hooks.

If you want the game to do what you want, then you need to tell it what to do. You can go right to the pitchers strategy and make sure his hook is slower. If you move the pitchers hook to slower then the AI will not pull them in the 6th inning. If you also set their pitch count to like 120 or 130, it will also slow the pulling of the pitcher. You NEED to TELL the AI how to do things, not just expect it to do it.

You have control of how the AI reacts. Take control of it.

So things to check

Pitcher hook on their own profile's strategy
Managers hook under team strategy
Make sure the settings in league Settings and Stats & AI (AI) are set appropriately for your era... for the 60's your hook for pitchers should be slow, or very slow.

You need to tell the AI in these areas to NOT pull the pitcher for pinch hitting. I am trying to help you in trying to fix the game how you would like the AI to play but please, do not expect the AI to do something it is not told to do.

I think just calling it “the CPU” should be sufficient.
