AI Integration
Are there any thoughts about integrating some form of generative AI into the game? In particular, I'm thinking about news articles, scouting reports, and in-game play-by-play text. There could be ways to program it to emulate various beat writers or commentators - or you could have an option to set your own styles.
Thoughts? |

I’d advocate for it in order to create computer GM’s that are more realistic and diverse. As is, this is clearly one of the game’s weakest links. Computer GM’s make many poor decisions and are trivially easy to exploit. Also, every computer GM evaluates every player more or less the same. In real life, for example, a consensus future value 45 prospect would be graded as a 35 by some evaluators and a 55 by others. You don’t see this kind of diversity of opinion among computer GM’s. There are many more examples.

I think AI integration could be one of the biggest long-term upgrades OOTP could make, especially if it is used to make the baseball world feel more alive rather than just generating random text.
One area where this would be incredible is GM interaction. It would be great if users could actually “message” other GMs before submitting trades. Instead of only using the current trade screen, you could have a conversation with an AI GM and get a feel for what they value, what they are trying to accomplish, and what type of deal they might consider. For example, you could ask: “Are you willing to move this veteran reliever?” “Would you be more interested in prospects or major-league help?” “Are you trying to cut payroll?” “What would it take to get this player?” “Would you consider a larger deal involving multiple players?” The AI GM could respond based on that team’s market, budget, competitive window, owner expectations, roster needs, injuries, farm system, and personality. A rebuilding team should talk differently than a win-now team. A small-market GM should value payroll flexibility more than a big-market GM. Some GMs could be prospect-focused, some could favor veterans, some could overvalue their own players, and some could be more aggressive. This would also make trade negotiations feel much more realistic. In real baseball, teams do not just blindly submit offers back and forth. Front offices talk first. They feel each other out. They ask who is available, what the other club needs, and whether there is even a possible match. Adding that layer would make trades feel less mechanical and more like actual baseball operations. AI could also improve scouting opinions. Right now, computer GMs can feel too similar in how they evaluate players. It would be more realistic if different organizations had different internal opinions on the same player. One team might see a 45 future value player, another might see a 55, and another might not be interested at all because the player does not fit their model. That kind of diversity would make the league feel more organic. The same concept could apply to news articles, scouting reports, trade rumors, player development updates, draft coverage, and in-game commentary. But for me, AI GM interaction would be one of the most exciting uses because it would directly improve immersion and strategy. OOTP already has endless possibilities. AI could take it even further by making every league feel less scripted, less predictable, and more like a living baseball universe. |

In my personal leagues I have used A.I. to review boxscores and even write stories of player seasons - it adds a lot.

I love the idea, and use AI a lot off-camera for my analysis and the occasional report, but I honestly don't know that OOTP will ever have the bandwidth to perform such an integration. I hope I'm wrong, because I am tiring rapidly of the narrow scope the scripted programming offers as the game gets more and more complex. When you play as much OOTP as I do, the game's limitations become more and more apparent, its shortcomings harder to swallow.
For it to be any good at all, it would take an entire rebuild of the game's structure from the bottom up. Anything less would really just be a half-baked cosmetic add-on that will be far more trouble than it is worth. One that many people won't want in the first place. Another dev lab or draft combine schemozzle. A waste of time and money. What might be a workable compromise is an improvement or adaptation of the almanac into different formats for use exclusively with one's preferred AI agent. A more streamlined way of performing a daily / weekly / monthly / result and stat dump would be a good start IMO. Anyway, like I said, I hope I'm wrong and the devs are brave and committed enough to take this great game up another notch to where many of us think it should be. G |

Because the news articles are boring and repetitive that's why... I don't understand why people are so affraid of AI, it's a tool and it is used in game since always (how do you thing chess computer games or sport games work?). Also do you seriously think that OOTP doesn't use AI already???

GenAI is arguably theft and the future of fraud. It's raising prices all over the tech world for you and me because rich people need more money. It's also bad for learning and it's horrible for the environment. Let me know when I need to start getting into specifics and citing numerous credible sources.

Sure... I couldn't care less, I already use AI for my FGs work and they are better than ever. You realize that you don't talk to a reddit or Bluesky user right?
