Fielding ratings in historical games
I've noticed some really weird fielding ratings playing historical games. For example it seems like every outfielder has full experience in CF despite never playing there ever in their careers. Also seems like light hitting CFs will be put as first basemen. I've tried basing fielding ratings on all 3 options, current season/3 year/5 year and it doesn't seem to make a difference. Is there any way to get better and more accurate ratings?
Also the bullpen construction is really off. Every team puts a SP as the setup guy and will use RPs in the rotation. Is there any way to fix this with the settings? EDIT- Another fielding quirk I noticed is that the AI will move guys to positions that they have zero ratings or experience in. Last edited by cultstatus; 04-25-2026 at 02:37 AM. |

I've seen none of these issues. Can you say more about your league -- how you created it, settings you enabled or disabled, changes you made, etc.? Maybe it'll help us find out what went wrong.

Check the Historical Player Ratings section under the League Settings --> Historical tab. These settings can impact fielding ratings.

In the "Historical" Settings, "Base Fielding Ratings" should be either Last 3 Years or Current Year (sorry if this is not the exact wording). I suppose this could be personal preference. "Entire Career" seems to really trip up the AI and mess with roster construction. Then in the section under that there is a button to recalculate ratings and that should take away those ratings for players who don't have any IRL experience at particular position. |

OOTPD made CF easier to play for corner outfielders which has disrupted the value proposition of having true, qualified CF players in the game there, light hitting though they may be. Despite comms asking them why this was done, I am aware of no clear answer, only that it causes problems that most don't notice (so I am grateful for this post). There was zero need for such a change in 27.
That's just part of it though. Historical defense is a mess in 27. There, i said it.
