Hugh McMullen 1925
Hugh McMullen, 1929 Cincinnati Reds. McMullen appeared in one game for Cincinnati, and it proved to be his last appearance in the majors... further, in what may be the only photo ever made of him in a Reds uniform, he blinked.
The image is sampled from a wirephoto I have on offer and fills a slot on the UIN list. |

Irv Stein 1932
Irv Stein, 1932 Philadelphia A's. Stein was the last of three Philly pitchers to face the White Sox in a 13-3 loss in the first game of a doubleheader on Thursday, July 7, 1932. He went three innings, allowing four runs on seven hits and a walk in what was to be his only big league appearance.
The image is sampled from a wirephoto made during spring training that year and fills a slot on the UIN list. Last edited by baseball-birthdays.com; 08-16-2016 at 08:39 PM. |

Jake Striker 1959
Jake Striker, 1959 Indians. In his only Cleveland appearance, Striker made his major league debut as the starting pitcher in the first game of a Friday doubleheader at Municipal Stadium against Kansas City on September 25, 1959. He pitched into the seventh inning and allowed just two runs. Striker was subsequently dealt to the White Sox as part of a seven player trade that December.
The image is sampled from a wirephoto date stamped April 9, 1959 that I sold last year and it fills a slot on the UIN list. Last edited by baseball-birthdays.com; 08-16-2016 at 08:57 PM. |

Jim Delsing, 1960 Kansas City A's. The image is sampled from a scan posted to eBay by HistoricImages back when it was a single vendor and it fills a slot on the UIN list.

Jim Moore 1928
Jim Moore, 1932 Cleveland Indians (the bb-ref photo is of Jimmy Moore and the Jimmy Moore photo is Jim Moore). Moore appeared in one game for the 1928 Indians and in two for the '29 squad. He ended up with the White Sox in 1930, and Chicago dealt him back to Cleveland just after the 1932 season opened, but he never played in another major league game. This image is sampled from a wirephoto date stamped July 7, 1932, but the uniform matches the home version worn in 1929 and 1932. In any event, another slot on the UIN list is filled.

Wow, I didn't expect to find that of the 117 photos I have of Kunkel as a player and umpire, he was capped in every single one. Sorry I couldn't help.

1955 Dodgers
Can anyone identify two of the Dodgers in this pic? I've got Jackie Robinson, Don Zimmer and Gil Hodges.
Also, what is the record referred to on the blackboard? The guy on the phone is a tough ID as the top of his face is missing. Thanks. Last edited by custard48; 08-17-2016 at 12:30 AM. |

Unbeaten Dodgers 1955
The celebration is of the 1955 team's then-record tying feat of winning its first nine games. They'd break the mark to go 10-0 before losing. Can't tell the half a Dodger upper right for sure but the youth, shape of the chin, and the circumstances suggests Clem Labine - he saved the ninth win just before the shot was taken.
Also, the incomplete figure may be holding something in his left hand but it's not a phone, unless it's a toy. A 1955 phone would have to be attached to something. Last edited by Merkle923; 08-17-2016 at 11:25 AM. |

MISSING Player Rex Smith 1886 Cincinnati Red Stockings / 1886 Philadelphia Athletics
I located a woodcut of Rex Smith, who pitched two games in 1886 for Cincinnati and Philadelphia. He was pictured in the April 1, 1888 Louisville Courier Journal.

Wednesday's Vault Output
By the way, I slowly but surely figured out the likely reason for last week's smallish Vault output was that it was the week of the National. If it is now like it was when I attended, it's all hands on deck for the card companies.
Wwednesday's reasonably good guess: 817-818 Al Holland; 819-820 Fred Holdsworth; 821-824 Joe Hoerner; 825-826 Ron Hodges; 827-828 Chuck Hockenberry; 829-830 Gene Hiser; 831-832 Butch Hobson; 833-836 Bob Shaw; 837-838 John Hiller; 838-842 Chuck Hiller; 843-844 Carl Yastrzemski; 845-846 Chuck Hinton; 847 Joe Foy; 848 Terry Fox; 849 Steve Foucault; 850 Jack Fisher; 851-852 Joe Ferguson; 853 Mark McGwire; 854 Al Ferrara; 855 John Felske; 856 Darcy Fast. Fyi
By my unofficial count, that's 34 images of Hawk Taylor currently residing in the official Vault folders.
