Giant
Doesn't look a thing like Chris Arnold.
There's also a number evident under the cap, possibly 51 or 57. The only player on Giants' spring training roster in the years in which those particular uniforms were worn (1973-76) to wear one of those numbers was first baseman Tony Pepper, and he is African-American, so that's not him. |

In search of a young Rick Bosetti
Merkle, I suppose I'll ask this question of you on the possibility of Topps snapping a pic of Rick with the Phils in '76 or Cardinals in '77. I realize that they had him on a 4-panel rookie card in the 1978 set, however I was curious if there were other images of him that perhaps you recall....
These color images will suffice in the interim I suppose....and the fact that he was involved in the trade with - gulp! - Tom Underwood - is not lost on me.... Last edited by hobbs11; 01-31-2017 at 10:14 PM. |

Is KF 250 Catcher Ernie Young?
Ernie Young was a non-roster invitee with the Giants in 1975. There seems to be some resemblance to the photo in KF 250. Can't explain why the pitching pose in KF 249.
Ernest Young Minor Leagues Statistics & History | Baseball-Reference.com By the way, Merkle, think we have identifications on two of the TBD's you posted earlier. They pertain to KF 197&198 plus 199&200. You'll find the postings on page 1506 of this thread. |

Jose Vidal 1966 (by request)
It's lousy, but it's there.
The Whitaker will be a few months until I do another professional screening. To answer the Bosetti Topps vault question: no clue. Never looked for him. Sorry. Last edited by Merkle923; 08-04-2017 at 01:10 AM. |

Re the missing Topps Vault ID's, Panick seems likely but I'm not completely convinced. And the Gibbon image is pretty dicey. Topps will have these up for sale on eBay soon enough - we can wait until we see what their records say on them (and, gosh, another Angel posted today, plus this Giant pitcher/infielder/catcher/fan who climbed over the fence and stole a uniform).

Not Lorenzo Gray
I am sure this is Rod Allen. He started out in the White Sox system and moved up in their minor league affiliates between 1977 and 1981. Here is the White Sox photo and a photo of Rod from the Tigers a few years later.

Other '62 Mets
Merkle, thanks for all the Dexter treasures you've sent our way.
Quick question: in your explorations did you see Topps shots of Joe Ginsberg, Sherman Jones and/or Clem Labine as Mets? Thanks again! |

Dexters and '62 Topps
No offense meant here, but if there were a copyright-free color image of Reggie Jackson in an A's uniform, don't you think I would've posted it first? Also, it's well established that Jackson was not in camp with the A's in 1967. The only times he would have been available for photography with the "KC" cap would've been the 1966 fall instructional league and his actual stint in the majors with Kansas City in 1967. Reggie himself has asked me about a color image from KC because he says he has never seen one.
As to the '62 Mets, I've posted here before that Topps did not do a formal shoot of the Mets in Spring Training of 1962 - they apparently caught literally only one or maybe two guys (a minor league infielder named Bruce Fitzpatrick) before an exhibition game at somebody else's camp). So they didn't shoot Bob Botz, Evans Killeen, Howie Nunn, Aubrey Gatewood, Ted Lepcio, Ed Donnelly, or any of the other transients who went through that camp. Even though they first photographed the Mets at the Polo Grounds in New York on April 17 before a game against Houston, and again during the April 27-29 series against the Phillies, there's no evidence that they shot Gus Bell, Joe Ginsberg, Sherman Jones, or Clem Labine (all of whom were gone from the major league roster by May 21, though Jones returned in September). They also never got coach Rogers Hornsby nor September addition Larry Foss. Regarding Rod Allen/Lorenzo Gray, remember with rare exception Topps never shot a minor league camp before 1990. Before postulating it's one player or another you need to establish if the man was actually in major league camp with the team depicted. Not saying Allen wasn't, but if you can't be sure he was its best to leave it until Topps identifies the image when it posts on eBay. On the Senators, there are more. Please be specific, remembering these are only photos of players who were with the club in spring training. Last edited by Merkle923; 02-01-2017 at 10:38 AM. |

Thanks for the homemade baseball cards of Bob Bowman. He was a favorite Phillie of mine in the late 1950s when I first started to collect baseball cards and follow the game. He had to rank in the top 10 or even the top 5 in outfielder throwing ability of any player to play for the franchise since World War Two and he was a decent offensive contributor off the bench.. |

Lew Krausse 1961
Not impossible to find - just confirms the inexplicability of a little Topps goof from 1965 when they put a shot of Pete Lovrich from Spring Training 1964 on Krausse's 1965 card. Sure enough, they had the Krausse image in the files. It'll be amusing to see if this image is listed on eBay as Krausse - or Lovrich.

For anyone who cares, Topps also dumped a bunch o baseball in the MF (insert your own joke here) file, today. These are the more recent "action" variety.
