As A Prominent Card Collector...

...I ask: Please don't degrade this useful baseball photography site into the 5,000,000th "let me show you my card collection" place on the net.

Cards are often the primary photographic record of players (particularly in the minor leagues prior to 1990) and those who produced them like Dexter and Topps provide us with additional negatives and pictures not shown elsewhere.

But the only relevance here of actual cards is the images they carry.

KG folder now open - Keith Hernandez 1974

Not one to offer what is of value to others, but the KG folder did open with dozens of images.

Like this one of Keith Hernandez.

KG005 is Dave Leonhard, not Moe Drabowsky.

Merkle, I would agree with you in not wanting to see this site degenerate into a large quantity of baseball card postings. However, if what triggered this posting was Rainmaker's display of 1997 Bryan Braves cards, I actually responded favorably to that posting. I have collected baseball cards off and on for decades, and have a reasonable collection. I had never seen cards from the 1997 Bryan set before. Rainmaker's posting reminded me that I was not satisfied with the Braves' images I possessed of Alan Embree and Mike Cather. The Bryan cards were an improvement. I now realize that a Google Images search would have revealed nice Getty Images versions of these two players in Braves uniforms, but if Rainmaker had not made his posting, I would never have looked.

In sum, my position is that baseball card postings should be OK on this thread if they are used infrequently and judiciously.

Personally, I would like to see this particular thread be strictly for posting photos and getting photos ID'd.

There should be a similar parallel thread for people interested in this topic where anything goes and no one can complain about what someone else posts as long as the Topps and copyright rules are followed.

I Will continue to show baseball cards if they are unusual or are relevant to a point I'm trying to make You might have a great photographic collection outside of baseball cards. Many of us don't..
I Don't agree with your point of view at all. It's elitist.

What other team sets (not counting the ones Topps sells as a stand-alone package) have there been?
Most regional sets -- I have no idea what percentage -- are at the very least listed in the Trading Card Database. Most are pictured as well, but some of them, despite their relative newness, are almost impossible outside of the giveaway area.

Besides the ones you mention, a couple of regional sets I thought were cool to collect or merely find include the 40-card 1984 Stuarts Expos, which includes Pete Rose and a nice shot of Derrel Thomas during his brief stay. The 20-card Pepsi Red Sox of 1990 (made by Score) were a tough pull because individual cards were only given out one at a time in sealed 12-packs.

Not for nuthin' (please don't bite my head off), we have an existent thread called "Random Photo Colorizations And Cards". It was originally ortforshort's thread with some truly brilliant colorizations in card form, most (if not all) of which have since been removed (not to imply anything untoward). But it would seem to me that that thread title actually lends itself to, well, random photo colorizations and cards (customs, regionals...who cares). I would personally suggest that the only time a card should appear in this thread would be when someone requests a photo of an obscure player (or obscure with a given team) and such is the only image available. But that's just me. As you were.

Swore I'd quit guessing ...

... and I have. Many of these are used images, and my first-day list was vetted. Since there have been 80 images posted in the new Folder KG, I did not want to fall too far behind. Left ??? where I failed to connect.

A first-time appearance is short-time Giants pitcher Bobby Moore (11 games in 1985) who had a 13-year minor league career. Traber and Henderson Images reversed.

MISSING Player John Gillespie 1890 Buffalo Bisons Players League

I found a photo of John Gillespie in the July 28, 1913 St. Louis Post Dispatch. He played one game for the 1890 Buffalo Players League club. He later owned a saloon in St. Louis at the turn of the century after leaving Buffalo for the Klondike.

Mike Morley

KG 051 & 052 are Mike Morley, who was on the KC Royals' spring roster in 1980. He was also a spring non-roster invitee with the Royals in 1979 and 1982. The B&W photo on the right is a John Spear photo.

I'm pretty sure 075-076 is not John Morris. I believe it is 1 season (1983) player Dan Morogiello. I checked BB reference and Dan's pic looks like the ones in folder KG. John Morris had a couple of baseball cards and on Google there is an autographed pic of him as an Oriole and it looks nothing like the pics in the folder.I believe he IS the player shown in 077 and 078 as a Giant. Could be wrong but......

Two points

Bobby Moore of the Giants was posted by Topps last year. As was Morley. This was another "grab whatever's in the already-opened pile" move by Topps.

More importantly, I request an apology for the use of the term "elitist." Were I am elitist I would not have posted rare and usual images that I took myself or own the copyright to, including the McCarthys and the Dexters and the discarded Daily News shots. It's an unconscionable insult.
