Once the Miggy money is freed up, they'll be well positioned to continue what they've started. The ownership group really needs to look at shaking up the front office in my opinion, or at least force Avila's hand at finding new hitting coach(es) and coordinators.

I agree. This is a group with great promise that has been snake bitten with injuries. It does not need to be blown up in my opinion.

With all the rest of their talent, minor league pitching staffs. I'm glad to see they're starting to call a lot of these guys up now (Hill, Skubal, etc.). Their minor league pitching coaches and coordinators are doing something right.

Article on the Tigers official MLB page (https://www.mlb.com/tigers/news/al-a...t-half-of-2022) makes it sound like Avila is not only not in selling mode come the trade deadline but might actually be in buy mode. Hmmm.

I really would have thought that Miggs would have a positive influence on Baez.
Baez needs to stop swinging for the fences, and, you know, actually put the ball in play. |

Only 16 players (and only seven living) have more career RBI than Miguel Cabrera...!

I predict he moves past Mel Ott this year.

You gotta think, if Lou Gehrig had remained healthy, he would have obliterated that list, maybe 2,500 RBI? He was at the top of his game, when he started to decline in 1938, we now know due to ALS. Man, he was good. Give him three or four more years, and he would hold many career records. And to be fair, give Ted Williams back his missed war years overseas, and he would be strong second place. All to say it makes what Cabrera and Pujos have done more impressive; not less.

Ted Williams missed his age 24-26 seasons. On average in his 20s, he drove in 125 runs per year; with another 375 RBI he's within sneezing distance of Babe Ruth.
Of course, not running into the fence at the 1950 All Star Game or not being drafted into the Korean War also would have helped...

Well, 6 in a row was a great treat.
I don't know when or if Manning and ERod will be back in the rotation but this is not sustainable with minor league arms (see Hill's outing today as Exhibit A). What a thrill those 6 games were though!

I'm still amazed at how well the pitching staff has done this year despite the number of pitchers they've gone through and despite the pitchers they've had throwing. They have definitely lost more games because of run-scoring rather than pitching.

Very happy to see Baddoo come back from AAA last night. He drove in a run!
I can't recall a player that I have enjoyed watching play this much in a long time. Really hopes that he can stick for the long haul.

Good piece on MLBTR about the bullpen pieces Detroit may make available soon (if not already): https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/...e-jimenez.html
Personally, I disagree with MLBTR about Soto. The team control is very nice; however, I think he will get the biggest ROI going forward. They can likely package him with another player (or players) on bad or expiring contracts and get a decent haul. I played around with some ideas and came up with the following trade: Anaheim receives: Fulmer (RP), Soto (RP), Schoop (2B), cash considerations Detroit receives: Adell (OF), Guzman (IF), Paris (IF), Rengifo (2B) Here me out. Anaheim gets a lot of bullpen help with one on expiring deal (Fulmer) and 3-more years of control over Soto (2025). With Schoop, they get an ultimate utility player for this year and next to help them through the injuries to Rendon and others. In return, Detroit gets 4 players under control until at least 2026. Adell, who was once a top prospect, has already been optioned at least once and the outfield in Anaheim isn't getting any open spots soon the way the current OF is playing. Detroit also gets a lot of future infield help, some major league ready (Rengifo) and two that'll be ready in 2-3 years. I realize Paris and Guzman are in the Angels' top 20 prospects list, but the front office knows those guys won't be ready to compete quick enough to help Trout and Otani. I look forward to any criticism(s) ![]() All this Detroit talk has me wanting to start a MLB sim in OOTP with them. I'm interested to see what I can do. Last edited by Cod; 07-13-2022 at 04:25 PM. |

Even I could be talked into liking that but I doubt there will be anything this skewed available out there. I just don't want to see any selling. This is a good group of players that we have watched them build for years - at least see what the group looks like off the IL in 2023 before blowing it all up again, please.

Cisnero finally activated only to go straight to the bereavement list.
Funkhouser's rehab shut down due to 'discomfort' in the shoulder. ERod still incommunicado. ![]()

It's been a rough year to be a pitcher for the Tigers.

Tigers demote No. 1 pick Spencer Torkelson to Toledo
I fully support this. Based on how he's done this year, it appears that he wasn't quite ready to be up yet. He'll figure it out and I think he'll be a very good batter in the future but he's not there yet.
