Honestly, it feels like a bit of Deja Vu now that the regular season is over. I feel like my brain is saying Oberland, but after how chaotic my predictions have been, I almost want Quincy to win, just for the in-universe meltdown it'd cause.

My non educated guess will be Oberland over Starlight in seven. I think the easy divisional races will serve them well after their byes. I think the Railroad League was tougher, and it will serve them well against tougher teams

So I see an Oberland pick and a Quincy pick.

I believe PAM's updated prediction was Starlight over Oberland. I'm going to go with Nordhagen Beach over Quincy.

The Play-in Round is simulated. It's time to report!

NCA Play-in Series

Game 1 - Bunker Hill 7, Sunshine Tidings 4

Play-in Series Game 1 Victory for Tonelli and Bunker Hill

The Bunker Hill 75ers powered past the visiting Sunshine Tidings Chemists, 7-4, in the opener of the Play-in Series at Battle of Bunker Hill Memorial Stadium today. Bunker Hill starting pitcher Jason Tonelli threw 7.0 innings of 3-hit ball, to lead the charge. The 75ers now lead the series 1-0.

In the bottom of the second, Bunker Hill catcher Darth Horse had a productive at-bat. With the bases loaded and one out, Horse stroked a 2-run single to left. It made the score 2-0, Bunker Hill. For the game, he went 3 for 4 with 3 singles, while adding 3 RBI.

"We're one game closer to our goal," Bunker Hill manager Puddin Greenwall said later. "It isn't any more complicated than that."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Battle of Bunker Hill Memorial Stadium in Boston.

Game 2 - Bunker Hill 2, Sunshine Tidings 1

Bunker Hill Sweeps into the Association Semifinal

The Bunker Hill 75ers made it look easy and are heading to the Association Semifinal.

They have ousted the Sunshine Tidings Chemists in a sweep, the final win coming by a 2-1 score, clinching the 2-0 series win.

"Everything's clicking for us right now," said Jig McGhee, who was named MVP for the series.

McGhee hit .833 with a .889 on-base percentage. He added 0 home runs, drove in 0 RBI and scored 3 runs.

The Bunker Hill 75ers will play against the Starlight Killers in the next round. Starlight had a bye in the Play-in Series. The Association Semifinal schedule will be announced after the Play-in Series finishes.

SCA Play-in Series

Game 1 - Egret 5, Jamaica Plain 3

Home Field Advantage: Church, Egret Open Play-in Series with Win

The Egret Ninjas powered past the visiting Jamaica Plain Red Rockets, 5-3, in the opener of the Play-in Series at Fallon Field at Egret Tours Marina today. Egret left fielder Jesus Church went 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once, to lead the charge. The Ninjas now lead the series 1-0.

The outcome might have been different had it not been for Church. In the bottom of the seventh inning, when the Ninjas were trailing 3-2, Church delivered a two-out 2-run double for Egret, giving his team the lead.

"We'll enjoy this win," said Church. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Fallon Field at Egret Tours Marina in Egret Tours Marina.

Game 2 - Egret 7, Jamaica Plain 1

Ninjas Move on to Association Semifinal

Many baseball pundits expected a close series in the South Charles Association Play-in Series. It turned out quite a bit different.

The Egret Ninjas swept aside the Jamaica Plain Red Rockets to advance to the Association Semifinal, winning the final game by a 7-1 score at Fallon Field at Egret Tours Marina.

The series MVP was left fielder Jesus Church, who hit .750 with a .800 on-base percentage. He had 1 home runs, drove in 3 RBI and scored 1 runs.

"We expected this series to go right down to the wire, so to sweep is a bit of a surprise," he said. "But we'll take it."

The Egret Ninjas will play against the Oberland T-51s in the next round. Oberland had a bye in the Play-in Series. The Association Semifinal schedule will be announced after the Play-in Series finishes.

CBO Playoff Association Semifinals Series Preview

NCA Playoffs - #4 Bunker Hill 75ers (67-53) vs #1 Starlight Killers (81-39)

Season Series

Starlight 8, Bunker Hill 4
June 11-13 @Star: Star 5-4 (12), BH 2-0, Star 6-5
July 2-4 @BH: BH 4-3 (10), BH 3-0, Star 10-5
September 3-5 @Star: Star 6-1, Star 5-3, Star 6-2
September 10-12 @BH: BH 11-2, Star 6-3, Star 5-1

Analysis

Starlight is making its eighth playoff appearance and fourth straight. With the playoff appearances, the Killers' furthest advancement came last season when they reached the NCA Championship Series but fell to Bunker Hill, 4-2. The season series favored the Killers, winning 8 of 12 games, and also helping them win the Institute League. Everything seems to line up for the Killers to end the 75ers' title defense.

Starlight is built to win it all, finishing 4th in the NCA in runs scored (614) and 1st in runs allowed (442). The Killers are also a healthy team with no players at any level currently on the injured list.

On offense, Starlight has four guys capable of power and a lot of contributors. Still, their only offensive statistic where they finished 1st was stolen bases (66). The leadoff hitter, LF Glenn Higinbotham (.283/35/77/17 SB), sets the tone for the 3-5 hitters: RF Hurr Lee Reyes (.368/18/71), 1B Oren Gep (.298/34/110), and SS Tib Shorthop (.262/25/87).

The pitching is where we think the Killers will be, um, killer in the postseason. With the best Starters ERA (3.55) and 3rd-best Bullpen ERA (3.60), Starlight will be tough to score against. The three playoff starters--Digger Vadim (15-6, 3.56), Whokill Poole (19-5, 3.36), and Bill Sarnacki (15-3, 3.32)--all have ERAs in the Top 10 of the NCA. CL Sam Molina (36 SV, 3.34) leads the bullpen with help from RP Scott Cournoyer (2-0, 2.09) and RP Steven Rockman (1-1, 2.29).

Prediction

Everything appears to be lining up for the Killers in 2309. If ever they had an opportunity to win a championship, this might be the one. Despite Bunker Hill's success in 2309 and their momentum-building series win already in the playoffs, we just do not think they can repeat their success. Starlight 3, Bunker Hill 1

NCA Playoffs - #3 County Crossing Bloodbugs (70-50) vs #2 Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (76-44)

Season Series

Nordhagen Beach 6, County Crossing 6
June 11-12 @CC: CC 5-4, CC 5-1, CC 7-5
June 18-20 @NB: CC 8-2, CC 6-5, NB 7-6
August 6-8 @CC: NB 3-2, NB 4-3, CC 5-4 (11)
August 13-15 @NB: NB 10-9, NB 9-6, NB 3-2

Analysis

County Crossing had a down season in 2308, dropping to 5th place in the Brotherhood League to break a seven-season streak. In 2306, the Bloodbugs won the championship, making their efforts worth it. It will be a harder path this season, but the Bugs are capable. Nordhagen Beach is back for their 13th-straight playoff appearance with a championship last coming in 2307. The Party Boys also won the BL for the first time since 2305.

This playoff matchup will mark the sixth time that the Bugs and Boys meet in the playoffs and just the second time in the Association Semifinals:
2301 - NB 4-0 CS
2304 - CC 4-1 CS
2305 - NB 4-3 CS
2306 - CC 3-0 SF
2307 - NB 4-1 CS

In the regular season, both teams were equal in numbers of wins, but the series was a tale of two halves. In the first six games, County Crossing went 5-1 in the series, but the Party Boys went 5-1 in the post-All-Star Break matchups with the Bugs' only win being an 11-inning affair.

County Crossing was not as successful in overall team statistics but still proved to be playoff-worthy. The Bloodbugs finished 6th in runs scored (584) and 4th in runs allowed (516).

The offense is best described as average with the exception of three standout players: RF Babs Rooth (.329/38/104), CF Any Why (.313/33/82), and 1B Casey Roux (.275/22/80). Two more standout players will miss the playoffs due to injury: SS Cy Thompson (.255/26/78) and 1B Zeldolph Violet (.231/0/4 in eight games). Roux stepped up for Violet's injury-shortened 2309 season, but the loss of Thompson has hurt.

The pitching staff was also average, though their overall runs against looked good thanks to a CBO-low 24 errors committed. The Starters ERA (4.20) and Bullpen ERA (4.44) both finished 6th in the NCA. The Bloodbugs will benefit from a healthy SP College Luckyman (4-3, 2.51) who only had nine starts in 2309. The other two starters will need to step up: Gavin Eviritts (10-12, 4.49) and Bobby Carvajal (14-5, 3.95). CL Wick Prater (36 SV, 4.11) struggled some throughout the season, but RP Jesse Bibeault (5-6, 3.91) and RP Drama Miller (3-2, 3.56) helped.

Nordhagen Beach did not have the strongest of starts, but they did finish strongly. In the end, the Party Boys were 1st in runs scored (625) and 2nd in runs allowed (466). The Boys also tied the Gunners for the best record after the All-Star Break (32-11).

The strange thing about being the top-scoring team in the NCA was that the Boys had no 1st-ranked finish in any other category. Still, six players hit ten or more home runs with the best players being RF Jonathan Angelou (.273/38/86), LF Young Goodman (.323/25/80), and CF Maxx Murtagh (.262/27/82).

The Starters for Nordhagen Beach finished 2nd in ERA (3.78) with the Bullpen (3.01) finishing 1st. Of course, much of the low team ERA came from the work of SP Beachboy Nut (20-5, 2.31) who is sure to win his eighth Vim! Pitcher Award. The other two playoff starters will be Deedee Martinson (10-12, 4.28) and Ugio Church (14-6, 3.71). In the bullpen, the Party Boys traded for Chopsticks McWilliams (18 SV, 2.30) to complement CL David "AntAgonist" Kidd (30 SV, 3.47). RP Austen Austin (8-1, 1.40) has thrived since moving to the bullpen in Nordhagen Beach but had a standout year in 2309.

Prediction

These two teams are not equal, at least not right now. County Crossing is a team we consider lucky to be in the playoffs, despite their finish as the 3rd seed. For Nordhagen Beach, they have looked like a championship team in the second half of the season. Nordhagen Beach 3, County Crossing 1

SCA Playoffs - #4 Egret Ninjas (71-49) vs #1 Oberland T-51s (82-38)

Season Series

Oberland 6, Egret 6
May 7-9 @Egr: Obe 7-4, Obe 3-0, Egr 12-2
May 14-16 @Obe: Egr 14-6, Obe 4-0, Egr 6-3
July 30-August 1 @Obe: Egr 6-1, Obe 9-6, Obe 6-1
August 20-22 @Egr: Egr 7-3, Obe 6-5, Egr 3-2

Analysis

After an eight-year absence from the playoffs, the Oberland T-51s have started to look as though they will be a playoff force for a time to come. Last season, the T-51s not only won the Railroad League, but they made it all the way to the Sole Survivor Series before losing to Bunker Hill in a classic home-team-take-all series. This Oberland team is even better and their second-best team since winning the Series in 2297.

The T-51s and Egret played to a standstill in 2309, meaning that this could be the best series in the semifinals. When it comes

Prediction

While Oberland looks as though they are ready to take over the SCA in success from the usual suspects of University Point and Roxbury, it will be a tougher road in 2309 than it was in 2308. Egret has also been the teams we have been unable to put our finger on all season. While we did not expect them to be one of the CBO's top teams, they have just kept winning all season. We are going to predict an SCA upset. Egret 3, Oberland 2

SCA Playoffs - #3 Quincy Gunners (72-48) vs #2 University Point Deathclaws (74-46)

Season Series

University Point 11, Quincy 1
May 21-23 @UP: UP 8-4, UP 10-8, UP 3-1
May 28-30 @Qui: UP 5-3, Qui 8-7, UP 7-1
June 18-20 @UP: UP 7-6, UP 9-7, UP 3-2
July 9-10 @Qui: UP 4-3, UP 8-6, UP 20-4

Analysis

Quincy is making just its third overall playoff appearance and second in the full CBO with the last playoff team happening in 2299. In that season, the 3rd-seeded Gunners lost in five games to #3 Diamond City. For University Point, they had made the playoffs eight-straight seasons before missing last season. This season, the Claws hope to continue some of their winning ways, hoping to return to their third Sole Survivor Series where they are 2-0.

Looking at the season series, this appears to be a University Point blowout due to the 11-1 regular season series record and the wins they needed to clinch the Minutemen League title. However, since these two teams played all game before the All-Star Break, they trended in opposite directions. For the Deathclaws, they went 16-20 in September and August while the Gunners went 27-9 in that same stretch. After the Break, Quincy was also up 10 games on the Claws overall: 32-11 vs 22-21. One team has gotten better, while the other has stalled.

For the Gunners, their 32-11 mark ties Nordhagen Beach for the best record in the CBO after the All-Star Break. Quincy was 2nd in runs scored (657) and 4th in runs allowed (522).

The offense was good at getting hits, finishing 1st in batting average (.289) but not as good hitting the long ball (6th with 153). Despite that low ranking, the Gunners generated power throughout the lineup equally with a team-high 29 (3B Ben Pettinato) and starting lineup low of 14 (2B Shirt Fowler). LF Hondo Ohnaka (.256/20/62) and 1B Curt Carpenter (.348/22/85) were the other two players with 20+ home runs.

On the mound, Quincy was 5th in Starters ERA (4.17) and 2nd in Bullpen ERA (3.91). The three playoff starters are Lyle Pine (11-10, 4.14), Village Idiot Recker (16-8, 3.51), and Fosdyke Rochambeau (12-6, 3.92). CL Matt Hoernig (21 SV, 2.70) leads the bullpen with major contributions from RP Greg Hudgens (7-4, 3.72).

University Point did this season what they usually do: outscoring their opponents through offensive firepower. The Deathclaws finished 1st in runs scored (764) and 8th in runs allowed (623). The 764 runs scored breaks their own CBO record of 714 set just one year ago.

Of course, the offense is led by a player without peer in the CBO. Regardless of injuries, this team just kept producing, including having three players with 100 or more RBI. Other than average (3rd at .281) and stolen bases (2nd at 49), the Deathclaws led every offensive category. 1B Barker Cocoa (.405/55/147/148 R) drives in and scores 1.2 runs per game, as well as hitting a home run every other game. Behind him in the lineup are two more producers in LF Chris Hirshfield (.304/39/132) and SS Austin Engill (.244/34/100). CF Aesed Hayjen (.308/27/57/14 SB) is one of the CBO's best leadoff hitters.

The pitching was not playoff caliber in 2309, finishing 7th in Starters ERA (4.83) and 11th in Bullpen ERA (5.23). The team's starter with the best ERA, Wilson Beachball (13-5, 4.19), is expected to pitch out of the bullpen in the playoffs. The starters will be Alex Alexson (12-7, 5.13), Tony Bertha (16-4, 4.76), and Lawdog Whipple (13-8, 4.95). The overall best pitcher on the staff was RP Erik Wipf (8-2, 1.32) who may be called upon to close instead of usual CL Chase Southie (35 SV, 5.34).

Prediction

As great as University Point's hitting is, any slump or down game will probably end up as a loss. Quincy has made itself the most consistent team in the SCA in the second half of the season. It is a stab in the dark, but we are going to predict that the Gunners take this one in shocking fashion. Quincy 3, University Point 2

I am guessing as much as everyone else since i do not sim ahead, but I feel like Egret is the team to watch most this season. I don't expect them to win it all, but their pitching has been able to do what I typically think of a team with playoff success does. If they could shut down Oberland and University Point's offenses, that would be something.

Anyway, as you see above, I picked Quincy and Egret to both win in the semifinals.

2309 Playoffs

BNN Report

News from the CBO, Minors, BCAC, and CYL

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

25 September 2309

Minor League Playoffs

MML Playoffs

It was all about winning for the Brookline Bandoliers -- and win they did.

There was nothing fancy in how they went about it, players said, they just prepared mentally and physically and then went out and played baseball.

"We did the little things right and we did the big things right," said catcher Asa Werber, who was named series MVP. "Now we're the league champions."

Brookline defeated the Burlington Ferals by a score of 8-3 at Windsor Locks Stadium to take the series 4-3.

"Sometimes you get lucky and sometimes you make your own luck," said Brookline manager Francisco Lugo. "We got lucky a few times, but mostly we did the right things by being prepared for each game and playing the game the way it's meant to be played."

BMU Playoffs

Forest Grove Pugilists Are Champs

The Forest Grove Pugilists pulled out all the stops tonight, winning the Boston Minor Series in a hard-fought series with the Mystic Pines Raybathers.

It was a seesaw affair, but with a 14-3 victory at Wattz Park, Forest Grove lay claim to the franchise's 1st championship.

"There's no denying we faced a tough opponent," said Foo Fieterz. "But as the old saying goes, 'when the going gets tough, the tough get going,' and that's what we did today."

The champs finished the regular season 58-30 and claimed first place in the Massachusetts Association Glowing Sea League.

A victory parade is set to be scheduled in Forest Grove in the days to come.

GBRL Playoffs

Stingwings Defeat Bloatflies

The Hyde Park Stingwings ignited a huge celebration as they beat the Lynn Woods Bloatflies 6-2 to win the Rookie Series.

Hyde Park won the series 3-1, capturing the title for the 1st time.

"We stepped it up at the right time, and now we're the champs," said Hyde Park manager Jason Wasmer. "It's a great feeling."

The champs finished the regular season 58-30 and claimed first place in the South League Southeast Division.

In the jubilant clubhouse after the decisive game, series MVP and center fielder Tobias Hoffman said the Stingwings have "great fans and they deserve this."

"I am so happy for our city right now," he said.

So I wrote that I don't sim ahead, and in simming the semifinals round of the playoffs, I accidentally clicked on sim game of Game 1 of the SCA CS. The playoff tree is thus edited to reflect no result in that game when I do report on the next round.

TBH I'd like that. I'm still in the camp that we don't need high churn to keep things interesting, but tbh I'm just mad at Oberland haha.

CBO Playoff Association Semifinals Series Results

NCA Playoffs - #4 Bunker Hill 75ers (67-53) vs #1 Starlight Killers (81-39)

Game 1: Bunker Hill 4, Starlight 1

Road Win Lifts Bunker Hill to 1-0 Lead in ASF

The Bunker Hill 75ers started the Association Semifinal in style today, winning on the road against the Starlight Killers at Valentine Detective Agency Field by a score of 4-1 to take an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series. 75ers left-hander Corey Ware threw 7.0 innings allowing 1 runs.

Bunker Hill used the bat of Matt Stickhouse to get the win. The first baseman hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the third inning to put the 75ers ahead, 4-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it did its damage.

"If I go out there and help the team win, that's all you can do," said Ware.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Valentine Detective Agency Field in Lexington.

Game 2: Bunker Hill 9, Starlight 5

2B Sapphire Lights Up Killers for 5 RBIs as 75ers Extend Lead

Riding the 2-hit performance of second baseman Emerald Sapphire, the Bunker Hill 75ers got a road win against the Starlight Killers, 9-5, in Game 2 of the Association Semifinal today. Sapphire was 2 for 4 with 2 home runs and a walk, while scoring 3 and driving in 5 for the 75ers, who now lead the best-of-5 series, 2 games to 0.

In the top of the third of a scoreless game, Sapphire hit a 3-run home run to put his team ahead.

"We haven't stopped playing," Starlight manager Austin Shuler said. "We didn't get this far to give up."

The next game is set to be played for Tuesday, September 28th , 2309 at Battle of Bunker Hill Memorial Stadium in Boston.

Game 3: Starlight 2, Bunker Hill 0

Starlight Breaks Through for First Win in Association Semifinal; Now Trails 2-1

And mine. I thought for sure that Quincy had turned into a dangerous team. Then again, it's hard to beat a record-setting offense even if the playoffs favor pitching.

2309 CBO Playoffs

BNN Weekly Report

This Week in the CBO, BMU, and GBRL

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

30 September 2309

CBO Playoff Association Championship Series Preview

NCA Playoffs - #4 Bunker Hill 75ers (67-53) vs #2 Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (76-44)

Season Series

Nordhagen Beach 4, Bunker Hill 4
May 4-5 @BH: BH 6-5, NB 7-2
May 25-26 @BH: NB 3-2 (15), BH 12-6
June 15-16 @NB: BH 4-2, NB 8-6
August 17-18 @NB: NB 7-6 (11), BH 6-4 (10)

Analysis

This is a matchup of the last two Sole Survivor Series winners in Nordhagen Beach (2307) and Bunker Hill (2308). It will be the first playoff matchup between the two squads though they were seeded #1 and #2 in the NCA in 2298, both opening series losses. During the regular season, the two teams were even with splits in all four series. Three games went to extra innings and 6 of 8 were decided by one or two runs. If the NCACS shapes out anything like the regular season, this will be a fun series.

As we mentioned in the Semifinals Preview, this is the 13th straight season that Nordhagen Beach is in the playoffs. Of those 13 seasons, it is their eighth season to reach either the Semifinals (pre-CBO in 2297) or the Association Championship Series (2299-2302, 2304-2305, 2307). They went on to the Sole Survivor Series five times (2297, 2301, 2302, 2305, 2307) with championships in 2301 and 2307. For the 75ers, this is their fourth playoff appearance (2296 and 2298 as Abernathy, 2308). This is now the third time they have reached the Semifinals (pre-CBO in 2296) or Association Championship Series (2308). Bunker Hill has appeared in the Sole Survivor Series just once, their 2308 victory over Oberland.

Statistically speaking, the Party Boys seem to have the overall advantage, finishing 1st in the NCA in runs scored (625) and 2nd in runs allowed (466), while Bunker Hill was 3rd in runs scored (615) and 5th in runs allowed (521).

In their season matchups, outstanding players for Nordhagen Beach were LF Young Goodman (.324/6/14), 1B Bryan Assman (.429/2/4), and 1B/3B Dirty Dog Sapienza (.333/2/4) at the plate and SP Beachboy Nut (2 CG, 2-0, 2.00 in two starts). For the 75ers, their best hitters in the matchup were SS Aaron Squire (.382/4/7) and 1B Matt Stickhouse (.333/2/10) and their best pitcher was SP MaX Thunderdome (1-1, 3.46 in two starts).

Prediction

While we like what the 75ers have done the past two seasons, Nordhagen Beach seems to be back and poised to do what they are pretty good at doing: winning in the playoffs. With the excitement of two 2 vs 4 matchups, we like the 2 much better than the 4 in this one because of the Nut factor on the mound. We hope the series will be close and will predict that, but this series if for the Boys. Nordhagen Beach 4, Bunker Hill 3

SCA Playoffs - #4 Egret Ninjas (71-49) vs #2 University Point Deathclaws (74-46)

Season Series

University Point 4, Egret 4
April 22-23 @Egr: Egr 8-3, Egr 10-4
May 11-12 @UP: Egr 6-5 (11), UP 6-5
July 6-7 @UP: UP 7-4, UP 6-4
August 3-4 @Egr: UP 11-2, Egr 4-2

Analysis

In the other 2 vs 4 matchup, the ever-dangerous University Point Deathclaws have returned to the playoffs with a vengeance after missing last season to meet up with the quiet-good Egret Ninjas who have been one of the most consistent teams in 2309. These two teams have met once in the playoffs, a 2305 SCA CS in which the Claws prevailed on their way to their second title.

University Point is making its ninth playoff appearance with eight straight before losing last season. Of those nine seasons, it is their eighth season to reach the Association Championship Series (2301-2303, 2305). They went on to the Sole Survivor Series two times (2302, 2305) where they won each time. The Ninjas are making their fourth-overall playoff appearance and second straight. Their deepest run before and only appearance in a Championship Series was in 2305 when they fell to the Claws, as mentioned above.

While hitting has always dominated pitching overall in the CBO, the playoffs have often proven to be a different beast with the deepest pitching staffs seeming to find most of the success. This season, though, the University Point offense was so good that it blew every other team's offense out of the water in terms of production. As a team, the Deathclaws set the SCA team records of OBP (.378 over County Crossing's .376 in 2304), R (764 over County Crossing's 715 in 2304), and BB (637 over their own 592 in 2303). The Deathclaws' lineup is brutal even without star RF Tomas Jones. Of course, everything revolves around the best CBO players, 1B Barker Cocoa (.405/44/147) who is pretty much assured to end his career as the top player in many offensive categories.

For Egret, the key to stopping the Claws is for their SCA-best starting pitching staff to shut down the University Point offense. All of Tup Mallory (13-6, 3.39), Max Grove (11-13, 3.67), and Admiral Kelm (18-7, 3.60) will need to be as tough to score on as they were in the regular season.

Prediction

University Point annihilated the team we thought was playing the best in the SCA in Quincy in the Semifinals Round. Egret has been our quiet good team this season, but we will predict them to be a loud out against the CBO's best-ever offense. University Point 4, Egret 1

In his 84-pitch effort, Church allowed no runs on 3 hits over 8 innings. He walked 0 and struck out 4.

"The key at this level is throwing strike one," said Church. "Successful pitchers do it."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Battle of Bunker Hill Memorial Stadium in Boston.

Party Boys Dominate, Sweep Association Championship

It was a sweet sweep for the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys as they eased past the Bunker Hill 75ers to advance to the Sole Survivor Series.

SCA Playoffs - #4 Egret Ninjas (71-49) vs #2 University Point Deathclaws (74-46)

Game 1: University Point 2, Egret 1

Association Championship Game 1 Victory for Alexson and University Point

The Association Championship got off to a quiet start today, with the host University Point Deathclaws taking a low-scoring 2-1 win over the Egret Ninjas. University Point left-hander Alex Alexson was marvelous at Gwinnett Brewery Park. The Deathclaws now hold a 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series.

Barker Cocoa dealt the Ninjas a blow in the bottom of the third. Batting with a runner on 2nd and University Point leading 1-0, Cocoa, who led the SCA in runs with 112 in 2303, hit a full count slider for a run-scoring single.

Cocoa attributed the win to "everyone pulling their weight."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Gwinnett Brewery Park in Boston.

Game 2: Egret 4, University Point 2

Egret Win to Pull Even With University Point

The Egret Ninjas topped the University Point Deathclaws by the score of 4-2 and moved into a 1-1 tie in the Association Championship today. The largest share of the credit belongs to Egret starter Tup Mallory, who threw 8.0 innings of shutout ball in the win.

Egret relied on the hitting of Plump Jack Korson to pick up the win. The catcher clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Ninjas on top, 2-0. For the game, Korson had 1 home run and 2 singles in 4 at-bats.

"It feels a lot better to be tied than to be behind, even if it is only one game," Egret manager Cozy Burmaster said.

Game 3: University Point 10, Egret 3

Hayjen was 2-5 with 2 home runs and 2 walks. He scored 4 times and drove in 3 at Fallon Field at Egret Tours Marina as University Point managed to take a 3-1 lead in the best-of-7 series.

University Point used a timely hit from Barker Cocoa to get the win. The first baseman stroked a 2-run double in the top of the 12th inning to put the Deathclaws ahead, 9-7. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it made an impact.

"Our guys are never satisfied," said University Point manager Woody Lumpkin.

Analysis

And here we are. Two of the decade's best teams will meet up in the 2309 Sole Survivor Series after great seasons from both. It will be the third Sole Survivor Series matchup between the two teams. The Party Boys are making their CBO-record sixth Sole Survivor Series appearance where they are 2-3 overall. The Boys last won the Series in 2307 when they defeated the Roxbury Rad Sox, 4 games to 1.

This year's Series will be the tale of two very different teams with the Claws being one of the best offensive teams the CBO has ever seen, while Nordhagen Beach has been dominant on the mound. First, let's take a look at a comparison of team statistics:

As you can see, University Point dominates every category in offense, while the Party Boys have better statistics in every pitching category. Is this an unstoppable object versus an impenetrable force? It sure seems so. Let's take a look at the teams and what needs to happen for each team to win their third championship.

Matchups (NB - UP):

SP 1 - Beachboy Nut (20-5, 2.31) > Alex Alexson (12-7, 5/13)
SP 2 - Deedee Martinson (10-12, 4.28) > Tony Bertha (16-4, 4.76)
SP 3 - Ugio Church (14-6, 3.71) > Lawdog Whipple (13-8, 4.95)
RP 1 - Chopstick McWilliams (18 SV, 2.30) > Chase Southie (35 SV, 5.34)
RP 2 - David "AntAgonist" Kidd (30 SV, 3.47) < Erik Wipf (8-2, 1.32)
C - Biter Trout (.312/2/44) > Shawn Cherry (.262/3/37)
1B - Dirty Dog Sapienza (.292/15/51) < Barker Cocoa (.405/55/147)
2B - Bobb County (.344/0/5) < Chris Recore (.282/12/45)
3B - Aaron Sinn (.267/12/54) > Nate Tivity (.227/7/43)
SS - Pipe Wallcrawler (.252/10/44) < Austin Engill (.244/34/100)
LF - Young Goodman (.323/25/80) > Chris Hirshfield (.304/39/132)
CF - Maxx Murtagh (.262/27/82) < Aesed Hayjen (.308/27/57)
RF - Jonathan Angelou (.273/38/86) > Jarrett Metalbox (.299/10/45)

Key Matchup: Party Boys' starting pitching vs University Point's 1B Barker Cocoa. Advantage: Cocoa.

The Deathclaws were deadly all season when it came to generating runs (6.37 per game). The 3-4-5 hitters in the lineup become the first ever three teammates from a single team to generate 100+ RBI in a season. Cocoa finished with the third-best ever in Average and RBI and fourth-best HR production. Winning this series will depend on that lineup being consistently deadly so that the Party Boys cannot pitch around Cocoa.

The Boys may not compare to the Claws' offensively, but they still have a good offense. They were 1st in the NCA in run production and 3rd in the CBO. Even if they scored 139 fewer runs than University Point, the Party Boys still scored a lot of runs (5.21 per game). Paired with their pitching having the 2nd-lowest number of runs allowed (3.88 per game), it was tough to beat Nordhagen Beach without the pitching staff having a bad day. Comparatively, the Deathclaws finished 18th in the CBO in runs allowed (5.19 per game), which means they will need to outscore the Boys to win this.

Prediction

Neither team finished first in their association this season, but these are two good, deserving teams in the Sole Survivor Series. History would give the advantage to University Point since it has won both matchups against the Party Boys. Also, history would give the advantage to the team with the best pitching, which was a factor in the Deathclaws' last two championships where they were a decent pitching team. This season, pitching is largely in the Boys' favor and three matchups featuring Beachboy Nut, along with the ability of Deedee Martinson and Ugio Church to shutdown offense tilts this one in the Party Boys' favor. Nordhagen Beach may be undefeated so far in the 2309 playoffs, but they will have a fight in this one. Still, we are picking the Boys to win their third championship. Nordhagen Beach 4, University Point 2

Well, the Boys have staying power. "Lore-wise" they're probably the least likely team to form a dynasty, so really have to hand it to them, I suppose, never really thought of that before.

Well, despite Emogene Cabot's reputation, she has been a hands-off owner in terms of baseball operations. She also got lucky and landed two key personnel members: GM Brendan Kneecapped whom she hired because he was eye candy but turned out to be an effective GM and Scouting Director Corban Lumpkin who has been great at realizing value in scouted players.

I still feel this team will drop when the core ages out, but they have reloaded with quality players and their pitching staff has been a good one for awhile, from the days of Julian Shed as the staff ace to a lot of decent production from Tommy Beach to the trade that aided both the Party Boys and Roxbury in the Beachboy Nut deal.

Sole Survivor Series: Nordhagen Beach Party Boys vs University Point Deathclaws

Game 1: University Point 2 at Nordhagen Beach 3

Party Boys Rally Past Deathclaws to Claim 1-0 Series Lead

The Nordhagen Beach Party Boys started the Sole Survivor Series in dramatic fashion today, stealing Game 1 from the University Point Deathclaws in a walk-off. Nordhagen Beach won 3-2 behind a good day from starter Beachboy Nut. The left-hander threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball in the win, which gave the Party Boys a 1-0 lead to start the best-of-7 series.

Clownie Blammo was the walk-off hero for Nordhagen Beach. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Party Boys pinch hitter hit a dramatic solo home run to send the teams home.

"Winning in the last at-bat, there's nothing else like it," said Nut.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium in Winthrop.

Game 2: University Point 3 at Nordhagen Beach 11

Nordhagen Beach Over University Point in 11-3 Romp

Riding the 3-hit performance of right fielder Jonathan Angelou, the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys stopped the visiting University Point Deathclaws, 11-3, in Game 2 of the Sole Survivor Series today. Angelou went 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 3 runs and drove in 4 for the Party Boys, who now lead the best-of-7 series, 2 games to 0.

In the bottom of the fifth, Nordhagen Beach catcher Biter Trout had a productive at-bat. With runners on 2nd and 3rd and two out, Trout stroked a 2-run double to right. It made the score 5-2, Nordhagen Beach. For the game, he was 3 for 5 with a double and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once.

"It's on me," said Deathclaws manager Woody Lumpkin. "The guys I sent out there today were the wrong ones for the situation. I'll be sure to send the right ones out next time."

Game 3 is scheduled for Wednesday at Gwinnett Brewery Park in Boston.

Still early but the Party Boys are trying to make this a "we're better then you at everything matchup" not the elite hitting vs elite pitching I at least expected. UP at least goes home down 2-0, but giving up an 11 spot may be tough to overcome. The boys aren't going to get beat up like that
