Charlie Blackburn (1915)

Foster Blackburn (who for reasons I have yet to figure out is identified as Charlie Blackburn) was a freshman pitcher with the University of Chicago squad in 1914, the year before he pitched for the Kansas City Federal League club in 1915. He is included in the 1914 Freshman Club team photo from the U. of C. 1915 Yearbook Cap and Gown (Vol. 20), available online in the U of C archives. He is in the upper right corner.

Another Win Mercer photo

I think this is from just months or even weeks before his death but I could be wrong. I seen the date listed on it listed as 1902 in some sources and early 1903 in others.

Willie Sudhoff

Baseball History Daily included this photo labelled as Willie Sudhoff with the amateur Ben Winklers club in 1895.

Ed Merrill 1882

I have located an additional image of Merrill, as pictured with the 1882 Council Bluffs, Iowa baseball team. The team photo caption mentions his name as "Bob Merrill" but the 11/28/1882 edition of the Fort Wayne Daily News clearly indicates this is the major league player.

Bill Voss Milwaukee Brewers & Misc.

Could someone tell me if there were Bill Voss Photos with the Brewers in the Topps Vault and if so, what are the numbers? Also, could someone tell me who these 2 guys are? The Rangers guy said Jackie Moore but he wasn't lefthanded.

Thanks,

BRobby05

There is no record of Bill Voss with the Brewers or indeed any other team in the Chop Country Rico listings of the Topps Vault files.

According to Baseball Reference Dot Com, he was with the Brewers in 1971 and the early part of 1972. Attached is a copy of the 1971 Topps card. I don't know about the vault photos that's one of the reasons why I asked about it as far as the vault photos are concerned.

According to Baseball Reference, he wasn't with the Tribe, that's why I asked OOTP. That's what had me confused.

Thanks,

I'm reeeeeeeeallly uncertain about this one

EDIT: Just as I had suspected the image does not depict Hickman so I removed it from the BR Bullpen but the webmaster of Baseball Almanac did make some updates to the player's page and when asked he gave a vague answer as to where the information came from regarding the player's full name, DOB height weight and batting/throwing hands is still in question.

ANOTHER EDIT: Yep yep YEP!!! I emailed some pals from the committee and they said the same as cinemaodyssey thank you guys

That is a modern image of someone with a filter to make it appear old. The hairstyle is a dead giveaway.

This could certainly explain why the scratches look different if there was 2 different filters used perhaps! As someone who used to go on a lot of gory crime scene forums and image archives as an edgy teenager, random fake images from movies and stuff actually would slip in quite a bit, not even with malicious intent but sometimes through genuine error, but for obvious reason I won't post any links.

EDIT: My email was responded to an hour or 2 ago by some members of the committee and they said the same thing so as for the image, we're good with that and it has been removed.... but do we have anything to go on for as to where the Baseball Almanac guy got all the biographical information from? If so it may be helpful in finding more on Hickman, but if not I will remove that all too. Here is the screenshot from Facebook btw as well as a link to Hickman's BA page so you can see for yourself: https://www.baseball-almanac.com/pla...hp?p=hickmer01

I covered the entire Larry Staab saga a decade ago. Takes me back…

(Although further discussion showed that I was wrong about the 1962 photo, but that's off-topic wrt 1970.)

The Ranger looks like Jim Umbarger, who was a lefty.
